Hmm. Pretty interesting indeed. I haven't had any experience with the R-series, but I'm assuming it is a little larger... a little more airspace, hence greater cooling capacity than the slimmer T60/p boxes?

I have a three dells and now a new Toshiba x505, I have a Dell precision M6400, XPS 1340, and XPS 1530, the toshiba is replacing the M1530 to many blu ray problems. My main gaming and etc.. is my Dell Precison M6400 since I love having an RGBLED its amazing every color pops! I want to get a thinkpad T400s but will be after i get some serious money and also finally sell my M1530. The 1340 is the machine i use for outside, I don't use it at home much always on the other machines, but my main two desktop replacements will be the toshiba and the dell. I enjoy running different programs and video and audio editing.

for those that are not familiar with the T series cooling stuff, there's priceless programs such as TPFanControl and RMClock that allow me to play say Unreal Tournament 3 all day long with temps not passing 72 deg C on the GPU, which btw is overclocked to the roof (62%).

for the HDD failure issues, I can say to all to do not only backups, but mirror backups of the whole hard drives. This way the only failing that could occur is the GPU failing (if you have a dedicated one), or the monitor breaking (but then you can use external one).

but back to the topic: I was thinking to get me a netbook, not that I need it, but because the GF wants one and I maight get one so that I wont be behind, lol.

I have a Dell M1730 and a T61p. The M1730 is nice but it's too bulky for carrying around, and even the T61p feels heavy to carry around at times. I think I'll end up selling my M1730 soon before it depreciates too much, since I don't have much time to play games any more, and I prefer to get something more portable.

Wow, there sure seems to be a LOT of replies withen the last few days on this topic :)
Seems like most people here have either a desktop and a laptop, or multiple laptops (one small ultra-portable, and a desktop replacement). I also would not assume that (even though this is a laptop forum) that everyone here as at least two laptops. Heck, I've been a member here for 2+ years and I have never owned more then one laptop (the Dell is my parents that I bought them for Christmas 2008). Figured this would be cool for those of us that have a bigger laptop (15.4", or heck even a 14.1") would see the set up of how/what others are using for thier ultra portable/main laptop.
X61 and x200 seem like the most frequently used ultra portable so far :)

Although I love my t400, Im realizing now that an x200s would have been a better match for me now that I stopped playing PC games. But still the size, weight and battery life of my t400 is still more then good enough for me. Still want/need a true WUXGA laptop though.

Don't forget this is the Lenovo sub-forum after all. ;) It shouldn't come as a surprise that the X61 and X200 are more frequently spotted, especially since they are less expensive compared to the X300.

Before I read this thread I was feeling super guilty and bad about buying my new 15" MBP... I just love the thing though.

Thing is, I had a 17" Gateway gaming laptop that has been lying around for the past year and I just haven't used it much because I hated the weight and having to lug it around school. It was also weirdly designed and it wouldn't fit in my backpack with the battery in it.

Anyhow, I feel better now! lol. I'm going in to graphic design anyway sometime next year and this gives me time to get experienced with OSX and such. Loving it so far.

What do you guys use all your computers for? I find it hard to switch between multiple computers all the time because the stuff I need is usually one one computer or the other.

One ultraportable laptop but with two docks, each dock with its own monitor and keyboard attached. It is like having a laptop and two desktops!

I only turn on my other computer (a desktop) when I need to a lot of horsepower.

This is how I work. I have a dock with 2 24in LCDs and a full sized keyboard. Basically i turn my t400 into a desktop in seconds and have the HP pull the mundane server tasks. I do have to say I have always loved the idea of having a small laptop that I can take anywhere and get great better life, then turn around and have it become a multi monitor workstation. Now if only it had a quad core CPU to better handle my multitasking better...
