    Hi,

I have decided to order THINKPAD R60, since THINKPADS have probably the best build and part quality, OK. But every electronic device, (specially if it is made in China) may someday encounter a problem. So i dont know does it worth to pay 90$ - 150$ to extend the warranty for 1 - 2 years or no ?

I want to know how many of you (or friends) have had hardware problems with your THINKPADS and when it occured? Within 1st yr, 2nd, 3rd or later? Please also mention problems, if any. I think this could be helpful.

    Thanks.

Check your credit card. Some credit card companies automatically extend the product's warranty by 6 months or a year if you purchase the product with the card.

In the latest issue of Consumer Reports (that included some laptop reviews) they recommend doing just this, rather than buying more than 1 year from the manufacturer - unless you happen to be hard on electronics. Still, I think about $50/year for the first 1-3 years for extended service depot repair from Lenovo is a good deal when viewed as a percentage of the total cost.

yes, no hassles. the machine was covered.
For the lcd, they replaced the entire machine with a new one, minus the hard drive/optical/memory/battery.

    3 times in 4 months.

Bought a z61t in June. Arrived, but it was missing Bluetooth, so I called Lenovo and they invoked the warranty for a repair.

A new system arrived two weeks after I sent mine in; they sent back an identical system that was still missing Bluetooth, and they didn't know where my old system went. Called Lenovo again.

New system arrived again. It had Bluetooth this time, but instead, there was no integrated camera now (whereas they had confirmed that it was supposed to). Called Lenovo again.

Number 4 is on its way right now.

I think it is worth it. I just extended the warranty on my T43 ($150 3 year depot repair) even though I had an extra year with my Citi Mastercard. With IBM/Lenovo I know I would have no hassle when the time comes to repair the machine because I have used their services before. I have never made a claim using the extended warranty from Mastercard but I doubt its as fast and efficient as IBM tech support. Another thing is what SkiBunny mentioned. Ive heard a few times where IBM would actually replace the defective laptop with a brand new one ie. after several failed attempts to fix it or if the model doesnt exist anymore. Hoping for an upgrade (jk :)). Well honestly Thinkpads are the best PCs Ive used.. dont think I'll be switching any time soon so thats what convinced me to extend the warranty.
