No, Lenovo gave me a RMA # and a return label to ship it back. Free of charge.

I cancelled an order and ordered again, but with some changes to the config. I ended up getting two laptops, but the extra one was actually much closer to the ordered than the one I cancelled.

if you break the seal on the computer box (usually thinkpads are double boxed) you will be charged the restocking fee. Once you break the Embossed Box tape you will be charged a restocking fee.

If in practice, if you cancel and they ship they'll waive the 15% either way. But their official policy is that if they ship you a machine, and you break the seal, they may charge restocking regardless of whether it was your "fault" or theirs. I think so much depends on the rep and situation, just like in sales. I canceled mine just two days after I ordered, had the date, reps name, and cs agent saw the order in the system with no explanation to why it still shipped.

+1 on the time frame, and 16 days is VERY optimistic. You're looking at a month essentially before you get your money back.

And just a tip for anyone who's going through this- when you get to a month, get the East North Carolina BBB involved and also file a complaint with your credit card company. Lenovo gets a little more responsive then. They start calling you for a change.

I think that is pretty clear about not using it if you want a full refund.

(I don't want to start a new thread just for this question)
My T61 order went through on Friday night/early Saturday morning (7/20-21), ESD is 8/8 (no delaying components). If I call Lenovo tomorrow to cancel, should there be no problem whatsoever? What about calling Friday? (cuz I'm still hesitating a little... )

Nope. No.1, my order went thu not intended (pressed wrong button). And now, the more I look, the harder for me to accept a wide screen, so I've got a reason to correct that mistake ;) Maybe it's unwise for me to cancel, since I may never get a 4:3 anyway, and I got a such a handsome discount for this order. So I'm still hesitating, but the wide screen really sucks for me (people call it wide, but vertically it's really narrow!).

So, will there be any problem canceling by Friday (1 week), anyone?

Not if you keep calling back until your order confirmation shows up as invalid. Having been through it already, I'd make them send me email confirmation from every rep I talked to.

Worst case scenario, it ships anyways, and you send it back. If you don't open it, you'll not be charged 15%.

I'm curious, why are so many people apparantly returning T61s? I'm getting nervous about mine.... it ships out 8/8 I hope.

Keep in mind this thread specificied those of us who "... canceled a t 61 still got it and sent it back", so they never should have shipped in the first place. But when it came, I said what the hey and decided to keep it anyways... until I saw the display. Beyond unacceptable vertical viewing angles, and massive light leakage. Probably the worst lcd I've ever seen on a notebook.

The overwhelming majority of buyers do not return their t 61, because they are satisfied with the display and everything else.

OK, I've called for cancellation today. Was told it should show in the order status in 24-48 hours. Per your advice, I asked the rep to send me an email just to record my request. She apparently wasn't willing to. Wouldn't give me her rep number, only her extension. She finally reluctantly agreed to send me an email, but I haven't received it.

P.S. I asked her about the parts list disappearing from order status, she had no clue.

I've cancelled a couple orders, and always it's because I've wanted to either change something in the order (HD size, fingerprint reader, wifi) or just because there was a better deal (recent 10% stacking coupon.)

In all cases when I've first called in, they have said they'll have to contact the factory and it will take 2-3 days. In practice this means the order never actually gets cancelled! (ie. the order information does not go away, nor does anyone ever get back to me...)

What has helped is to call back the next day and hopefully talk to a different CSR. They usually say "Oh, I can delete this order for you right away! Should I go ahead and do that?" and once they've processed it, the order status is *immediately* unavailable.

I keep printed records of all my orders in case something does show up at my door, and I also insist on email confirmations from all the CSRs, but calling back again definitely seems to help.

    My $0.02.

The T61 was shipped 2 days after I canceled it. It is now "In transit", from Louisville, KY. The CSR that answered my call today issued an RMA# and said after 3 delivery attempts the package will be returned to the warehouse in NC, and in 8-10 business days refund will be issued. Does this make sense? Has anyone had the same experience?

Yes. Two days after I canceled, it was shipped. The CSR emailed me UPS bar codes and a RMA #. The I jsut stuck it all on there and shipped it back. Then 8-10 days after its receipt, they will refund my money.

one month ago, I ordered one, and Lenovo had internal problem which caused my order being held in there computer for 3 week and not passing to factory.
Later I ordered the second one, they put this order on the critical list, so it was built so fast. One week after I placed this order, the priced dropped. When I asked for price adjustment, they refused !!!! and they recommeded me to cancel this one and re-order another one. At the same day, this laptop was shipped!! So I was not in a hurry to book the lower price one.
After some struggles in my mind, I decide to keep this baby, not return it.
