As most forums go, more complaints float around then praise, and right now it really seems like a lot of people are having bluescreen issues. What I, and maybe others, want to know is just how widespread this problem really is. How many of you guys who already have your T61s don't have any problem whatsoever?

I think most T61 customers are satisfied with their product. Angry customers are more likely to complain than happy customers compliment.

The reason why more complaints float around is because the people who are satisfied have no real reason to sign on (im guessing)

I love my T61. The battery life is awesome, despite nvidia card. The screen is ample bright, even at lowest brightness. The off centered screen isnt noticeable unless you are in a room that's completely white. It's sturdy as a rock, feels secure, boots up nice and fast, smells like daisies, etc

now the things im not too fond of: the wirless connection (intel wireless) has a tendency to drop me every now and then. It depends on where I am, so it might be a router issue (but my other comps seem to connect fine). It's nothing huge, but it can be annoying, especially when you close the lid and it goes in sleep mode, which disconnects you till you open it back up and log in again (i still havent found a way to make it stop doing that).

I was also not fond of all the crap software they gave me, but every company does it, so no biggie.

Overall, the good totally outweighs the bad, so i'm elated

I really need to know too...
I finally made up my mind and placed an order, but now after reading this, and some other forums started getting really worried...
What I would like to know besides how widespread these problems are is that if any of these reported issues: BSOD, Slow boot, etc. are hardware related... If so I think I should cancel my order and go for a Latitude :(

I'm very happy with my T61 so far. Very nice machine and runs great. I only had one BSOD since getting it. I think it was a fluke since it has been solid at all other times.

I don't think you can go wrong with the T61.

A poll would be nice. I'm getting tired of waiting for the T61P and all these BSOD threads are pushing me more and more in the direction of something else. I'd like to be convinced otherwise. If most T61 owners have a stable system I'd like to here about it.

As for LBTRS - if you had one BSOD, I'd tend to think more are inevitable... for your sake, I hope I'm wrong.

I have been using mine for almost a week now with no issues at all.

It is fast, reliable, and built really well IMO. The construction is perfect on mine and it has lived up to my expectations.

Only thing I dont LOVE is the battery life. I thought I could get up over 5hrs with the 7cell but I am usually at around 3.5 - 4.5 with a moderate screen brightness and wifi on (with wifi off I can get up over 5 hrs I think).

The screen is also nice on mine. I like how dim it can go so in dark rooms at night I can really turn it down (my other laptops cannot be turned down as far) and it seems to get plenty bright for the daytime.

Overall a very good notebook and one of the best I have owned. Built well, works well, and is great :)

I'm completely satisfied with the laptop itself! Its a REALLY nice machine! Well built and has everything I want! Runs like a dream too with Vista Ultimate.

Lenovo on the other hand is a pain int he a** to deal with so I hope once I get my noisy fan fixed I don't have to deal with them again, LOL!

I think it's a pretty cool notebook. I think I'm happy I got it. Been sent off for repairs though (BSOD/bios issues).

I agree. If I buy a laptop, and something retarded like that happened, I would kick and scream until someone noticed.

when buying a new product.. if you get any problems with it. you should definitly ***** and moan.. i bought a dell latitude before and the only problem i had with it until it got stolen was that i accedently turned of the wireless card and windows decided it was still working, just not finding signals.. (thats problobly normal... ) but ya.. it was my fault. in over a year only one problem and it was my fault. thats the reliablility i look for in a product.

Not happy with my T61 at all. I've had blue screens way too often and the battery life is terrible.

I think it needs some attention to Vista compatibility and it might be salvageable.

I've only had my T61 for a few days, but I'm quite happy with it (especially given the multitude of negative remarks I read while waiting for the thing to ship).

    - The screen is quite nice. At its brightest setting, very crisp and easy to read. At the lower settings (to save battery), it's pretty dim. But that's what it takes to get more battery life, so I can't complain. (I'm getting around 4.5 hours, maybe a bit more. 7-cell, integrated graphics, 7200rpm HD, BT off, WiFi on.)
    - The battery management software is great, with lots of settings to adjust. (I just wish someone would put out a definitive guide to maximizing battery life with the T61.)
    - If I had to do it over, I might go with a 4-cell battery and the 3-cell drive-bay battery. I don't really mind the 7-cell sticking out, but it makes me a little nervous (pick it up wrong and you put a lot of strain on that area of the computer) and having the more compact form-factor would be a plus, in retrospect. Aside: I am surprised at how long it takes to charge.
    - It's very quiet, very cool (temp-wise). Only the wrist pad over the HD gets warm. Impressive.
    - The fingerprint reader sometimes 'disconnects' when Vista goes to sleep, though after recent updates this seems to be less of a problem. The reader is a slick feature.
    - The keyboard is truly wonderful (a Thinkpad newbie here, so I understand this is to be expected).
    - Quite a bit of junk software, but easily enough removed (mostly manual delete, as little of it is included in the add/remove software list).
    - Can't really tell about the Turboboost, and I haven't experimented with it much, honestly.
    - I really love the lid material. It's no fancy metal (like the T60), but it's got a great, almost-rubbery feel and the computer looks sharp from the top-down.
    - The vertical USB ports are odd, but I find my cruzer-micro fits without hitting the table, so no complaints.
    - The weight is acceptable, even with the big battery, though not superb. Removing the optical drive gets you nowhere, as that thing weighs next to nothing.
    -No BSOD, not one.

For reference, my last laptop was an old Averatec 3150P (frankly, not a bad machine).

go to control panel -> power management. poke around in there and you'll find the normal options for when you close the lid.

As far as the laptop goes. I'm extremely impressed by it. However, i am suffering from constant bsod. I cannot use the laptop on battery. AC power it works flawlessly.

I'm accepting that i need to do a clean reinstall of vista, but i really shouldn't be put in this situation considering it is brand new.

I don't have a scale handy, but I think it comes in around 5.4-5.5 or so. But I'm quoting stats on what it's supposed to weigh, not actual weight. Sorry I can't be more specific.

I think the laptop is great. It took me like a day to clean install and get all the drivers working. Without the drivers, the CPU makes a lot of computing noise. I do kind of wish the battery life was a little longer. I'm getting around 3 hrs for high settings, and up to 4 hrs with low settings. The CD/DVD drive seems to make a large rumble when it is reading discs also. Other than that, the system is running great. Clean install helps out a lot because you kill off about half the processes and the load up time goes from 5 minutes to 1 minute.
