I'm a novice Laptop owner - this R61 is the first I've ever had.

Here is the link to the one I purchased.

How many slots do I have?

yeah, but you can add a 1Gb stick or even 2Gb stick, because you have 2 slots and one of them empty

    You're positive then?

I even took it off but it looked like there was only one slot. How do I put in the other one and are you postive there are two? I really didn't see a spot that it could even slide into...

Damn, well too bad I bought two additional sticks of 1 GB ram when I only had two slots :(

Side note, I already went through most of the installation steps and when I thought I was done I did get stuck on the "Detach connector of the palm rest cable by pulling the tab with your fingers." I was pulling pretty hard and it didn't seem to budge. I worried that any harder and it would break.

    Thoughts?

I forget exactly how the palmrest cable is connected, but make sure you are pulling at the correct angle. You do not need to pull hard IIRC, and I think you'll want to pull towards you. This is all coming from deep in the bank of my memory here so I can't say for sure how to take it out. Be careful, don't pull hard, make sure you are pulling at the right angle.

Hmmm, I don't remember anyone mentioning an angle.

Anyone else care to give me some advice?

Do I even have to pull off that palmrest cable to get in there and change the RAM?

I just really don't want to break it by pulling too hard. The manual says straight up but how do you pull straight up if you are pulling on a tab that is only connected to one side of it lol?

I didn't have to disconnect the palm rest cable when installing RAM in my T61. I pushed the palm rest aside, plugged in the RAM and reassembled everything.
