Hey everybody!
It's been a while since I've stopped by NBR-- I've been into desktops lately, but alas the hard drives in my G73 are beginning to fail which tells me it may be time to start looking for a new laptop [obviously replacing the drives would be far too simple). I'm particularly intrigued by the X1 Carbon and X230, but I don't want to drop a penny until they've got Haswell inside. The HD4000 IGP that came with Ivy Bridge was too tame for me, but I think that GT2/GT3/Iris may be able to sate my appetite, so here is my question for you Lenovo faithful--
How long until we see Haswell in the X-series? Is there any chance of it arriving on June 4, or does Lenovo take their time with updates?
-
Lenovo doesn't usually release ThinkPad machines with a new Intel chipset for 2 - 3 months after the chip release. They do however announce what will be coming quite a bit ahead of time, not like Apple who keep mum on things and then announce and release often in the same week. So while you may have to wait until mid-July or August for any ThinkPads to be available with Haswell, you may find out quite soon exactly what will be coming and when.
-
Would they just upgrade the chipset for current models or release new models with new chipset (e.g. T440 or X240)?

I was really hoping I could pick up a Haswell Thinkpad Edge sometime in August. Are you certain that Lenovo won't release the chips until then?

So this means the new X series will stick with the "M" series processors which don't release until the fall. No chance of the 28W ULV or the 35W quad core? -
I don´t know if this also applies on the Edge Series, I was only talking about T/W/X/L.
Of course, there will be an X-Series with an traditional Dual-Core M processor with 37w, I think Quad-Core would be too much for this size of chassis. I don´t know about the 28w CPUs, I thought they would be only used with 14"/15" Ultrabooks.
But for sure, there will be an 12" Ultrabook in the future X-Lineup (the Haswell version of the X230s, possible named X240s), which uses a 15w u-CPU. -

Is there any precedent in terms of how Lenovo has in the past released chips. (i.e., in what order, time frame were they released, such as 1rst X series, 2nd T series, 3rd M series, 4th Edge Series, etc.) ? Something to go on for a rough estimate? Perhaps what they did when processors went from Sandy to Ivy bridge?
-
They typically do the larger 14" and 15" notebooks first, then come around to the smaller X series a bit later. Of course that's subject to change depending on what Lenovo wants to do, but it seems the most likely scenario.
-
Don't know about that - I usually buy Lenovo, but my last laptop purchase was a Sony Z1311 (sadly discontinued) that had a full voltage quad core mobile processor with hyperthreading in a tiny package, so it's quite possible.
Might have to wait for later chip models with lower thermals though.
I hope Lenovo does something similar.

There's at least some hope, Lenovo is now selling Haswell equipped IdeaPad gaming notebooks on their site:
IdeaPad Y510p High-Performance 15.6" Multimedia Laptop from Lenovo | Lenovo (US)
Some already received their units by shopping via Newegg that's offering this system. And Dell today announced their Haswell equipped Latitude E6540 that will be available in the next "few weeks", I've heard July for that. No doubt you'll see far more consumer notebooks with Haswell ahead of the business systems though. -
Thanks for all the replies guys! I guess I'll just put some more money aside and get a nicer one when the time comes XD

I spoke to a Lenovo rep over live chat and heard some good news!
I specifically asked about the x230 and X1 Carbon but I'm sure this applies to other similar models. The rep told me they will be available by the end of the month (June). -
Hi,
Could you asked same thing about E330? Would it be refreshed with haswell too? -
the lenovo sale rep often do not know what they are talking about.
-
Yeah. Lenovo sales reps manning the live chat (if they are sales reps at all) are not exactly the best source of information. Even when talking about already released and sold products, let alone yet to be announced products.

any update on this? Haswell for the x1 Carbon? T440s is kind of big and heavy, although at least it has 1900x1080.
-
I'm waiting for the same thing... No specific date has been set, but the training materials were up for the X240s... SO hopefully we'll see the X-Series update soon.
-
September was given as the time when ThinkPad Haswell will be released.
-
Any idea if the X1 will get the same new 1920 x 1080 screen as the T440s?
-
i desperately want to know the same thing about the X1 Carbon Haswell update. i would never consider the T440s, can't stand the form factor.
-
an x1 with a 4558U or 4650U or.. ermm.. 4702MQ and a FHD screen would be neat.

Hey is anyone familiar with Lenovo (and outlet) pricing when a new model in introduced?
I am currently looking to upgrade from an ancient T43 and essentially just want the cheapest X series I can get. i5 or i7 doesn't matter. I might prefer 6 cell for weight reasons. I do want an ultrabase and SSD though I can always get them separately. I don't care if it is an X220 or X230 or whatever the new model is-- I just want it for as cheap as possible, and with at least a year warranty
I've been looking on Lenovo, the outlet, and ebay and can get what I want (with ultrabase, no SSD) for $750 today.
1. Is that a decent price for today? Or are there better deals on the outlet if I check over the next week?
2. If I wait a month or two for the new model, how much will I save?
Thanks guys!
How long until Lenovo gives us Haswell in the X-Series?
