I am in Canada. I ordered a Lenovo W510 on-line on Nov 26, it has been shipped out on Dec 4, but I still have not received it

Lenovo gave me a UPS shipment reference number on Dec 7, I checked UPS everyday, and got the same result - UPS is not able to find the information, blah, blah, blah........... Lenovo agent told me that this is normal and it means that my laptop is still hold by Canada Custom

Has anybody ordered a Lenovo laptop recently? How long did you receive it? Is that normal that the Canada Custom hold it that long?

This is driving me crazy:cry: I bought this laptop as a Christmas gift, do I still have hope to get it before Dec 25?

I ordered yesterday from the outlet, which I assume means they actually have the unit in stock and already built, but my ship date is January 3rd. Why is it going to take them 3 weeks to put something they already have in a box and send it to me?

Considering the Holiday season and stormy weather, I will have to give it more days than yours.

Usually 14 calendar days from order to delivery. Customs may be busier at this time of year.

Ordered Nov 26, shipped Dec 4: these two dates look "normal". Usually you should receive the machine Dec 10 or Dec 12.

So, crossing fingers, maybe this Friday Dec 17. :) Definitely before Christmas!

Today, I still got the "No information found" kind of response from UPS! I was told by Lenovo agent that for sure I should be able to track my package YESTERDAY!

I CAN NOT take this any more, this is definately not normal, there must be something wrong. So I called Lenovo 5 minutes ago. This time, the agent put me on hold for 10 minutes, and then told me the reason why he put me on hold is that he just contacted their warehouse and let them check with UPS to track my package. I should get an email from Lenovo within 24 hours to indicate where my package is and what the UPS tracking number is.

Please keep this in mind, I don't even have a UPS tracking number, all I have is a shipment reference number! And I have not been able to track my package through UPS since the beginning. Lenovo kept telling me that this is normal, the "No information found" message means the package is still hold by Canada Customs. But all I can think is my package was lost somewhere between, so it does not even have chance to be scanned by UPS, that is why I can not get any feedback from UPS.

Let's see what's gonna happen next. What a nightmare!

After talking to a Lenovo Sales Support agent to ask about the status of your shipment, you should receive an email like this:

Thank you for choosing Lenovo, the makers of ThinkPad and ThinkCentre products.

Your order has been shipped. Below are instructions on how to track the delivery of your order with United Parcel Service Tracking number will be available 7 business days after your order is shipped.

    1) Go to UPS Canada - wwwapps.ups.com/WebTracking/reference
    2) Select Tracking – then Track by Reference
    3) Please insert this number# 0123456789 in the Shipment Reference box.
    4) Then select Canada for the Destination Country and click the Track button.

If you get the message that "UPS could not locate the shipment details....." this is normal. It means that your order has not been released from Canada Customs yet. The UPS tracking number will be available after your order is released from customs. This may take a few days.

Should you have any other questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact us again, or should you prefer to speak to a ThinkPC Sales Specialist, please dial 1-866-96-THINK (866-968-4465) Monday through Friday, from 9:00am to 6:00pm EST. A representative would be pleased to assist you.

At least in Canada, the Lenovo "way" of tracking shipment is extremely cumbersome -- the customer has to call, the customer has to check, the customer has to second-guess, the customer has to worry... Dell Canada does a much better job with proactively providing order-to-delivery information: up-to-date details are available under "My Account" at the Dell website. They even call you the day before the package is delivered. By contrast, the Lenovo people keep quiet the whole time: absolutely no proactive communication of any kind!

Somehow, I still feel you will get the black plastic box before Christmas. Keep calling them.

    Good luck!

    Thank you, Kaso.

I DO agree that Lenovo's customer service sucks. They are just so good at making such simple easy thing SO difficult. Although I do like thinkpad, I still think it is the best laptop in the market. I had one which I bought 7 years ago, and it is still working. Maybe Lenovo does not care about us in North America. Comparing to the market portion they have in Asia, we are nothing :)

Anyways, I will keep calling them EVERYDAY till I get my package.

My T41 and T43p (with IPS Flexview) still work well. They were expensive, though. Imagine paying over $5000 for a ThinkPad of equal quality in every aspect, today. (Please, it's not about comparing the i7 QM now with the Pentium M back then.)

However, Lenovo makes the whole experience "cheaper".

    Again, good luck to you.

Because of variety in configurations, it is impossible to predict. I had a fully packed t61p and lenovo moved out the delivery time to three months at which time I cancelled the order.

Hopefully I am not in Renee's case. My package has been shipped out on Dec 4 and my order status became invoiced. So I am assuming that it has been fully packed.

I even have already got a letter from Lenovo with all the invoiced information. I have not had time to read it though, will do it tonight. They are more anxious to charge my money than make sure I get the product :)

As long as I can get my machine by 24th, I am happy.

In the northeastern US - I placed the order on the Lenovo website near midnight on Wednesday, Dec 8, received a shipping notice e-mail early Sunday morning Dec 12, and had it in my hands by 3PM on Tuesday Dec 14.

An accessory I ordered shipped seperately and arrived today.

All-in-all, I'd say that was excellent service.

    I am so pissed off!

FINALLY, today, I called LENOVO, because I did not get the email that they supposed to send me. They did get my package information from UPS, guess what, The package has been delivered on Dec 10, but to the wrong address! That is an office somewhere in Toronto, and I am not even living in Toronto. My package has been sitting in the mail room of that office for a week! In the meantime, I has been struggling to try to track it!

I show my anger and disappoitment during the phone call, that Lenovo agent set up a conference call with UPS. He gave me the tracking number for this incorrect delivery, so I am able to visually see my package has been sent to the wrong place :-(

Through the conversation between Lenovo and UPS, I can tell that somebody in Lenovo gave UPS the wrong information about my order, because there is another package need to be send to that place.

Anyways, the agent told me what they are gonna do is to send people to that office, get my package back, and let UPS resend it to me. I have to hope that nobody opened or broke or stole the package, otherwise Lenovo will have to set up a replacement order! If everything goes smoothly, I should get the new UPS tracking number for my own delivery by next Monday.

What a mess! What a nightmare! I show my attitute to that agent and I don't think I should be blamed! I told him that I have to have the package before Christmas because this is a special gife that I will give to my special one. I let him enter this into the system, so the Lenovo people who will see my order will see it!

Anyways, I will have to call Lenovo next Monday to check out the status, although this agent told me they will send me email right after they get any updates, but I don't trust them anymore.

That's pretty damned ridiculous right there. There's no excuse for shipping to the wrong address. Personally I'd give them a week and a bit to make it right then file a chargeback with your credit card company stating non-delivery of goods if they don't come through.

Now if they do happen to make it right be sure to check the box carefully when it gets delivered. If anything looks off with it refuse delivery and demand a replacement.

After reading all these bad things about lenovo I'm not particularly hopeful that my order I placed last week is going to go smoothly. Guess all I can do is wait...

How long for the replacement ususally? Are they gonna ship the replacement from China all over again?

I am really worried about my package, because it has been staying at that wrong place for 1 week, who knows what happened. So maybe I have to go down to the replacement route.

Man, this is so hard. There is only 1 week left before Christmas. If they did not enter the wrong address, I have already got my package for one week! Even though I still have chance to get my package on time, but if there is anything wrong with the laptop, I won't have time to make it right in time:-(

I just tried to call Lenovo to find out if there any updates on my case. Guess what, the message said the office has been closed for the day, the message also said the regular office time is Monday to Friday from 9am to 6pm, and now is only 4pm!

I'm a bit surprised to be honest. I don't know details about your case, but if it is what I think it is, some people need to get fired :(. Lenovo doesn't ship laptops one by one from China. Instead they ship them in bulk (usually packets of 100 of laptops), through a special agreement with UPS. Every packet is delivered to Lenovo's offices (HQ) in Toronto and then sent to individual destinations.

Usually they don't send you the UPS track code for the packet, but if you call and ask they give it anyways. The problem is that at a point the status changes to "Delivered" (means it was delivered to HQ) and then you go crazy. Normally you should receive by email the normal UPS code when it gets shipped from Toronto.

I've seen many people going crazy for this (in the redflagdeals thread), so I really hope this is the case here.

Does not happen like that with Lenovo Canada.

    1. They never send the waiting customer any email with any UPS code. You always have to call. They will tell you "Hey, too early, call back later" and you have to try again in a couple of days. Then, if you're lucky, the Sales Support agent will say "Well, I will be sending you an email shortly. Use the code and the link in there to check with UPS. But UPS may not have any info on your package yet."

    2. My Lenovo packages - plural, meaning multiple cases - were always staged in the US first, then transported by UPS from US to Canada, then distributed within Canada. With the "access code" mentioned above, the step-by-step history of the whole trip can be seen.

This is the last email they sent me, I never called them asking for shipping information. I was just speaking from personal experience and assumed this was the case for everyone. I have no reason to doubt you (on the UPS thing). However on another Canadian forum I've seen the same story happening over and over again. (users complaining that their package was delivered to Toronto). Also its not always coming from the US:

    TORONTO, CA xx/xx/2009 10:51 A.M. DELIVERED
TORONTO, CA xx/xx/2009 11:04 A.M. CARRIER AND CUSTOMS RELEASE
TORONTO, CA xx/xx/2009 11:01 A.M. DOCUMENTS TURNED OVER TO UPS-SCS BROKER
    TORONTO, CA xx/xx/2009 6:00 A.M. CONFIRMED ARRIVAL
HONG KONG, HK xx/xx/2009 11:14 A.M. DOCS RECEIVED FROM SHIPPER
HONG KONG, HK xx/xx/2009 11:14 A.M. DATE AVAILABLE TO SHIP
    Shenzhen, 44, CN xx/xx/2009 8:30 P.M. CONFIRMED DEPARTURE

Eh oui? They sent you the above in an email? I usually see similar information (as shown above) when I get into the UPS tracking page via the Lenovo access code. I never receive any delivery- or shipping-related email messages.

Well, enjoy your personalized service! :) I guess we can only share our individual experiences, which are not universal truth.

I ordered a ThinkPad W510 w/ 4 GB of memory (only upgrade) on 11/27/2010 (Saturday).
Received a email 5 days later:
The tracking number was posted the next day & after sitting in customs for 4 days it arrived (@ my work) on Dec. 7, 2010, actually 1 day earlier than the estimated ship date, I was happy w/ those results.

This is what I'm understanding as well from all the bad and good I've read about in regards to lenovos service. Everyone in the US gets decent service and if you're outside the US it's a crapshoot.

    Updates:

I just called Lenovo, the agent, who happened to be the person I talked to last Friday, told me, UPS has already found those two boxes, but not sure which one is mine, they emailed Lenovo to find out the serial number, but the Lenovo building lost power last Friday afternoon and everybody went home (that is why I could not reach them at 4pm), so nothing could happen in Friday. That agent said he will get back to UPS right after our phone call to give them the serial number, and UPS will tell which box is mine, and then ship it out to me from Toronto. He will contact me this afternoon once he gets the new tracking number. So as long as the box is not opened or broken, I still have chance to get it before Christmas.

If somebody of Lenovo is fired because of my case, I feel sorry for that person. But because of his/her careless mistake, my holiday spirit has already been ruined. All the passed weekend, I have been thinking about what I am gonna do if I can not get my package before Chiristmas, cancel Lenovo order and rush out to buy a new one? Which brand I should buy? How much more money I have to pay to get the new one? I got a very good deal for this Lenovo laptop actually, and I don't think I can pay the same amount of money to get the same configuration.

Anyways, at least I know my box has already be found by UPS, so next step is to cross fingers to hope that the box is all OK and then send to me without any more drama.

I was told that that wrong place is a company which is doing computer business. What I understood is that company sells computer/laptops. So that makes me feel a little better, because it is not just a mail room of a building, so my package has more chances to be safe.

    Second update for today:

Instead of waiting for their phone call, I decided to call them at lunch time to find out any updates. This time, another agent got my call, it took her at least 10 minutes to check my records (my story is just too long :)), and then she told me the UPS has already set up a time, which is sometime tomorrow, to pick up my package from that wrong place, and then delivery it to me. I need to call back tomorrow after 1pm to get the tracking number.

I asked that agent, can't you call me or email me my tracking number instead of I keep calling you? She said, NO, they have so many customers to deal with, it is hard for them to contact each customer with each single detail, so they perfer to let customers call them! What a bull!

Anyways, the good news so far is that she confirmed that my package is all OK, not opened, not broken. And she gave me her word that I should be able to have my tracking number by tomorrow afternoon.

My bottom line is that I get my package before Christmas, and it has all the configurations that I ordered.

    Let's wait and see.

In Canada, Lenovo's backend systems are not integrated, so no automatic notifications via real-time events across systems can be set up. It's all manual work to the agents (who have to check multiple systems to provide information for any single request), that's why they can't help each customer personally and proactively. I became acquainted with a very helpful supervisor who told me their "pains".

    Back to 1980s, eh?

It isn't. I placed an order on the 14th and got a ship date of 1/3, but it came today.

Try ordering during Chinese New Year; one month and two days to deliver. You guys' delivery dates are nothing. :p

I live in California, so we're both on the other side of the world from China.

Cali is not that far away from HK. For mine to ship here it passes through Cali.

    Updates:

Apparently the words from yesterday's Lenovo agent is a . I just called and this time the agent told me YES, UPS has already picked up my package from that wrong guy, and then set up a transit to delivery it to me within 24-48hours. BUT, because this is a correction of that wrong delivery, everything is internal, so I don't have that NEW tracking number (although I don't my OLD tracking number at the first place).

So, I am still in the black box, dont' know where my package is and when exactly I can get it. I have to work during the day, but I can not arrange to pick up from UPS store because I don't have the tracking number! The whole thing is more like a joke now.

Maybe I can try to call UPS, to give them my address to see if they can find something for me.

Just call UPS, they can not find anything related to my package but said usually they will still use the tracking number for that wrong delivery, because the package is still that package, just need to deliver to a new address. So I should wait till tonight to re-check UPS website to see if there is any updates.

I doubt what he said, but don't know what else I can do.

Lenovo ordering system sucks..many of my orders were stuck for some oddball reason..had to wait forever..they don't even cancel the orders..they have to send a bull request to cancel orders..not to mention the 15% restocking fees..man..their service sucks. But they make some nice thinkpads..I guess trade off..

I just called Lenovo the second time today. The agent confirmed my shipping address with me and told me to just be patient for the next 24 to 48 hours, my dear W520 should be in front of my door by then. If not, call them and they will inform their trace department to find out where it is, in that case, that means I can not get my dear W510 before Christmas and my holiday will be toally ruined. Cross fingers, don't let that happen to me, please!

I know I am a bit cranky, but you guys knows why I am like this. I know my W510 is somewhere in Toronto or even in my town, I can even smell it, but just not be able to touch it.

So far so good on my order. Right now it's supposed to be at the mercy of Canada customs waiting for someone to clear it. Or at least that's what the tracking email said would be the case if the reference number failed to work and it did. So if there are any delays now I have to blame UPS and CBSA. :(

I think it's safe to assume most packages in the US will arrive 7 - 15 days.

I'm just hoping mine arrives before the year ends and not on 3/29.

When a phone rep tells you it's in the warehouse does that mean somewhere in China?
