    Hi,

I have 2 quick questions on the Lenovo T500 model.

    1) Is the sound decent ? If I plug my speakers, is it as good as on a desktop ? How does it compare to other laptop brands ?

    2) I like watching DVDs on my laptop. Should I pick a good graphic card ? (In fact, does the graphic matter for DVDs ?)

    Thanks

    It's decent, but it's a notebook.

    Nope.

1.- The speakers are nothing impressive, but they're not horrible either. If you plug in external speakers, it's the same as a desktop. It's average compared to most other business laptops, and it's below consumer-grade laptops with subwoofers built in.

2.- The Intel GMA 4500MHD is perfectly capable of DVD playback, and even most HD video playback. The graphics card will mainly be useful for gaming or 3D design.

    Ok thanks,

I understand the Intel GMA 4500MHD is perfectly capable of DVD playback, but would the ATI Mobility Radeon 3470 increase the quality of the videos I watch ?

No. Why would it? The x4500 is just fine for video playback (including h.264 up to profile 4.1 [Blu-Ray and the majority of downloadable HD content]).

I would rate the T500 sound worse than the 5 other Dell Inspirons I have owned. But the sound is passable. The sound is like a transistor radio of old. I havn't tried external speakers but headphones are also worse than Dell.

you can always get a usb dac (digital to analog converter) if you are interested in higher quality sound source to your speakers
