I could only find the battery life for the 7-cell on the Lenovo website and those aren't always all too accurate anyway. I'm thinking about buying it with the 4-cell battery to cut off some weight and also so the battery is flush with the machine but obviously if the 4-cell is terrible I would rather have the 7. If anybody here owns one your input would be appreciated.

I get 4 to 4hr 20mins with constant websurfing and watching movies. That is with brightness set to 5/7. This is with a 7 cell. Using this as a guide, I'd expect about 2hr 30 mins from the 4 cell. I debate in my mind which I'd prefer...since the 4 cell would look so much nicer, AND be lighter. If about 2 hrs of runtime will work for you, go for the 4 cell. I wouldn't expect 3 hrs.

Don't forget there is three cell modular battery if you are no using the optical drive which would get you to seven cells.

Wired says it only last 1h 48m.

I'm thinking of buying z61t and battery life is one of my biggest consideration.
Anyone can offer any explanation? -
The base battery has four cells. It doesn't seem out of line. There is a larger seven cell or modular batteries if you need more time.

I have the 4-cell and the 7-cell. The 7-cell is definitely closer to 4 hours, maybe just a it under. I'd say the 4-cell is probably just short of 2 hours. Don't have it with me, or I'd double check for you.
I really like the look (and the weight) of the 4-cell, but find myself leaving the 7-cell in it most of the time and carrying the 4-cell as a backup in my bag.
How is the battery life for the z61t?
