I just got a new T430. I want to say I hate it! The left palmrest is super hot! The display is also intolerable. Even though it's a HD+ display, it has noticeable screen door effect and the color is just so bad. I'm planning to return this machine and get another model. So my question is: is T530 any better in these two aspects? And how about T430s? Thanks!

I believe the HD+ does offer a bit better contrast than the T430. I reviewed the T430 and did not find the palm rest to be hot. Perhaps a call to support is worth a few minutes of your time. If you want a ThinkPad with a good screen, the X230, and the T530 or W530 with the FHD are probably your best options. The X230 is IPS and the FHD is about as good a TN panel as you'll see. I though the X1 Carbon screen was fairly decent, though others complained of the screen door effect, which I did not see.

I guess the palm rest is hot because I got the 7200rpm hdd. It might be cooler if I had bought the ssd. I don't really need a super good screen, but this T430's screen is just hideous.

That's it. (I thought of the HDD right away as I was reading your initial post.)

You could switch to SSD yourself, but the stupid screen cannot be helped.

If you're considering a T530, it helps if you opt for (1) the FHD screen and (2) an i5 with integrated graphics. The latter consideration would keep the (noisy) fan at bay. But then again, I don't really know your computing needs.
