I hear people complaining about sony sa series's screen (probably due to superior quality of z series screens), but I want to know how is SA's screen compared to T420s.

As far as I see, a lot of people are complaining about T420s having "grainy" screen (and having screen door effects), but I don't find the same complaints for SA screen (I guess sony SA series is not grainy).

Can you give me your opinions about how T420s's screen is compared to Sony SA series?

People complain about everything here. Lenovo comes out with the kick butt X220, the best notebook being sold right now in my opinion, for dirt cheap I might add, now there's backlight bleed, it's not WXGA+, you can't use a regular hard drive, etc.

Sony's SA screen is a very light matte. It's okay, and kinda normal for most decent laptops, it has a very slight reflectivity you have to carefully look for, in order to find it (while outdoors).

If you wanted a better screen than what's already listed in this thread, probably only the Sony Z's display, in this size category, would actually be better in any way. There are better 15" IPS displays in workstation laptops.

Lenovo uses 3 panels (LG, Samsung and AUO) for the T420s and which you get is a lottery. None are outstanding but feedback suggests that AUO is the least good.

I had some complaints about my LG screen (see my review) but some tweaks have made it acceptable and, after almost 3 months, I don't regret my purchase.

How can you tell which panel you have? My screen seems fine.

There are two ways that I know of: (i) Do a parts lookup at this Lenovo webpage or run HWiNFO32 and check the monitor properties then Google the monitor code.

Just to add to what John said, if you're looking to find out what screen you're getting before it ships, there's no way of doing it. You'll need the serial number do to the parts looking and you can't get it from Lenovo before it ships.

The only way I've seen is if you're buying from a eBay seller and they send you the serial number. Some will and some won't. Maybe it's possible with an on-line retailer, but it seems unlikely.

Lenovo does give you the serial number before it ships, but by then it's too late to cancel if the screen lottery doesn't go your way.

But, is T420s' screen more "grainer" than Sony SA series?
