I recently have been working with a Macbook Pro. That gets uncomfortably hot in my lap where I tend to use it. How is the Thinkpad?

macbook pro... omg cook eggs on the bottom....

i never want to have something get that hot...

my friends mac book pro he got when it first came out... that piece of **** burned up 2 video cards in the first year, and the battery crapped out soon after the warranty. tech department never fixed it.. he just has to run it on battery saving mode constantly so that it doesnt get too hot.

My T61 is very cool. Only area that gets warm is by the CPU and a tiny bit on the right palm rest (HDD is right there).

I say warm, but it really is not that warm at all. Much cooler than any other laptop I have owned to be honest, and probably the quietest as well.

Probably 10% of my laptop use is on my lap. While I wouldnt say its ice cold or anything, it will buildup some heat. One part is having a big block of something on your lap blocking airflow, and then the rest is the heat the laptop puts off. Under normal use I would say the bottom is in the 80-85 range after a good hour or so. The fan outlets are off the the side, so they dont bother you much.

Comfortable and quiet. The dvd/cd player is sometimes noisy. They advertise it as the coolest laptop. Big plus in my book.

Low energy use. Maybe 25-20 watts avg (no usb). Depending on screen brightness, might be 18 watts as a min. If I remember right, a watt or so sleeping. No perceptible power draw from cord when off (under a watt).

If the CPU isn't 100% for a couple minutes, my T61 is completely cool to the touch.

Honestly, I think the MBP is the coolest laptop of all because of its aluminum chassis...

    ...when it's off.

My X60s runs cool .. gets a little warm when i charge the battery. I used to own both MBP and MB ... that horrible piece of overpriced hardware, gets very very hot. One thing i loved about MBP was the fact that it was a 17" wide screen so i comfortably kept both my feet warm during last winter. Thanks Apple !!

x60s, cool? awesome. all I've read are heat complaints with that one. maybe the 2gb RAM you have keeps the hd from working as hard.

    Right palm rest?

Right palm rest gets a little warm but it`s hardly noticeable. And this is only when i charge the battery. When my laptop is unplugged it runs very cool and can put it on my lap for hours. Overall i`m content with the x60s. Maybe it`s the 2gb Ram. On the other hand, i don`t do complex stuff, just surfing the web and MS office, got rid of all the pre loaded crap of course.
