I have a 3+ year old T60. I am contemplating a T510, but might try to squeeze some life out of the T60. The wifi card is a pain, though. I regularly have to reboot to stay on wifi/tethered. How big a deal is it to replace and what should I replace it with? Thanks.

First, you should be sure that the WiFi card itself is the problem, not some software/driver issue. Try finding the latest drivers for it and reinstalling it (and if you haven't already, disable ThinkVantage Access Connections and let Windows manage the wireless itself - that strips away a layer of software that could be causing your problems) and see if anything changes.

In terms of replacing it, check out the detailed hardware maintenance manuals available here (find the appropriate model), and judge for yourself whether you're comfortable making that upgrade.

And hit the service and training site linked in the sticky. It has videos showing how to complete each step of the process.

Thanks. I got the new drivers which helped somewhat, but certainly did not fix the problem. I hunted around on my computer and on google, but could not find a clear method of either checking on or turning off Thinkvantage Access Connections. Can someone tell me how to disable it? Thanks.

Thanks Lead Org. Is it possible to disable them without uninstalling? I don't think I have the install discs anymore.

You can always re-download Access Connections from Lenovo's Support and Drivers website - you don't need any disks for that.

can't you just download a hacked bios and stick whatever wifi card you want? I think I've heard of 400mw cards being used in a t60 t61s.
