My X200 tablet should be here on Friday. I'm really excited, as I did a tremendous amount of research on this purchase and this will be my first ThinkPad, my first tablet, and my first computer with a SSD. It will also be my first Vista machine, which I'm not too excited about, and my first Windows 7 machine, which I am excited about.

Does anyone know how Lenovo's Vista ->Win7 upgrade certificate program works? Can I simply download Win 7 or do I have to order a CD or DVD and wait for it to show up? If possible, the very first thing I want to do with this computer is do a clean install of Windows 7 and leave Vista in the dust. I really don't want to load up all my apps into Vista only to repeat the process a few days (weeks? months?) later after some disks show up.

Any advice on expeditingg the Win 7 upgrade, short of going out and buying the retail version, would be appreciated. Thanks.

You have to go to the Lenovo Win 7 upgrade program site here:

    http://www.lenovo.com/us/en/windows7/

And once you have your X200 you can register for the free upgrade, you'll need the serial number on the bottom of the X200 to complete the process. Looks like the disk has to be shipped, estimated shipping is $17 if you live in the U.S.

    Bummer.

Since it'll take at least a couple weeks to get the Win 7 disk, and I'll need to use the computer in the interim, should I do the update on top of Vista or should I do a clean install?

Are you sure the Lenovo disk will even be an upgrade disk and not a recovery disk, as with Vista?
