I'm curious to know how Lenovo decides which keyboard (NMB, Chicony, Alps) or screen (LG, samsung) they get when they order a Thinkpad. If you order the P series, does that also mean you get these higher quality parts?

I dont think that's the case. The P series is not a series, by the way. It's a specific model (I assume you're referring to like the T61p, the T60p, etc etc). I believe the choice that they use is probably based upon supply. I got lucky and got the "right" ones for mine...
I have heard many times through that if you are not satisfied with your keyboard you can always request the right one and then ship your old keyboard back. I dont think that is the case for the LCDs though as changing out the LCD is a lot of work so I've heard. -
Anyway I was just curious. Technically mine is Chicony but it must be a newer one, I really like it. Side by side with a T42 with an Alps while I prefer the alps they are both very high quality. Was just wondering for future purposes. Thanks for the reply. -
From what I've heard people would call Lenovo, say they weren't satisfied, and could specifically request the NMB keyboard. Once it arrived, they would just have to send back their old keyboard.
I like my NMB keyboard very much -
I don't know, what's the "top" keyboard? Some like alps, I like chicony, others like nmb. And some nmb's ARE (rebranded) chicony. OTOH I'd agree lg is probably somewhat better display, but there are people here who like their samsungs too, so ymmv.
It is completely random which part goes in which notebook, unless you get a flexview which is exclusively lg now.
How does one get a top keyboard and screen? Does P series give you that?
