Not everyone here is a guy.

I clean my screen with a soft cloth and windex.

I'd be curious about how to clean the keyboard.

Don't use Windex! It will mess up your screen!

Microfiber and/or damp microfiber is better.

    What is microfiber?

Also the paint finish seems to be a smudge magnet. When I installed my WWAN card, the case received several smudge just from handling. How are they best removed?

Believe it or not, I have cleaned many laptop and desktop (partially disasembled) keyboards in the dishwasher. I don't let it run the dry cycle though as it would probably melt something. After I pull it out I shake off the excess water and lightly blow dry it then let it sit for a minimum of 24 hours in a warm and dry environment.

It's a highly absorbent fiber used in making cloth of all types. See:

    Microfiber

I'm not a guy either, but I think s/he was using the term loosely to mean "group of people". I personally take no offense from it and use the term myself. Well, when I'm not calling people y'all, that is!

Also, if you're in the US, you can get a pack of 25 16" x 16" (40cm x 40cm) microfibre towels at Sam's Club for around $10. I would expect BJ's or CostCo would have similar packages.

I use 90% distilled water and 10% isopropyl alcohol. It is impossible to get it sparkly clean w/o the alcohol as that disturbs the oil particles w/i fingerprints and so forth

I use a generic LCD cleaner that you can get from any electronic store ... alcohol free. Also use the microfiber cloth. Does an excellent job !!

I use a damp paper towel with a tiny dab of Dial liquid soap rubbed into it (clearish orange color... not the stuff with moisturizers). It works really well and leaves almost nothing in the way of streaking. Do NOT use Windex. It will ruin the plastic. I found this out when I was learning to fly (my airplane uses a lexan plastic windshield). A microfiber cloth is probably better because paper can cause scratching if used too firmly.

I use a 50/50 mix of 70% Isopropyl alcohol (aka "rubbing alcohol") and water with a micro-fiber cloth. This is what IBM recommended to users years ago when I got my first IBM laptop (a Thinkpad 600). If I am lazy, I just steal a disposable LCD cleaning pad from the office supply cabinet at work. I often just use the dry cloth to wipe away dust.

I use an electro statically charged dust cloth and then a lightly damp microfiber for any fingerprints. As for the case, a damp cloth with Joy or Dove dish soap suds or a Mr. Clean magic eraser works well for grease.

Here is an article someone did on the board here:

Today I used a Windex mist and a soft paper towel on the screen, keyboard and outside and the machine looks as if if came out of the box.

Most remarkable was the outside. I don't have oily hands but intalling the WWAN system did leave what looked to be permanent smudges on the outside. They came off instantly and professionally with lite Windex.

If you live in Australia I use Fellows LCD moist wipes, available from Office Works or Harvey Norman for $9.95 for 100.

I use one a week and my screen stays crystal clean!

I would avoid using Windex on lcd screens namely because they contain ammonia which can be damaging to the optical film coating that covers the lcd and even cloud the screen. That coating can also be scratched so avoid paper towels as those contain tiny woodfibers.

I just use distilled water with a CLEAN micro fiber cloth. Then wipe the screen with the lcd turned off. There are some who recommend isopropyl/water mix. You can also buy commercial lcd cleaners too (some of those mentioned above are quite good) but they generally consist of the same thing while this is cheap and easy.

Thank you, I'm reading this on a Dell LCD that I've had for years and it has had Windex bathes. I get the feeling that the LCD cleaning people are doing a propaganda thingy.

Definitely don't use Windex on any LCD screen. Windex is for cleaning windows, not LCD or TV screens.

I use Monster screen cleaner on mine with the large microfiber cloth that came with the kit. I got it for <$20 off eBay and because it's an entertainment center cleaning kit size it will last forever on just regular laptop screens.

In fact Dell's site recommend using rubbing alcohol+ water mix and I think the cleaning guide on NBR even recommends it but somehow I'm a bit wary of using that on a matte screen long term. I find a slightly damped microfiber cloth does the trick.
