Hi I have a T61 with a CD/DVD rom and a r61i with a DVD recorder in it and want to swap these two with one another. Neither manual provides instruction maybe someone knows?

If it is a hot-swappable device, you should be able to flip a small switch that pushes a piece of plastic out from drive; pull on it and the drive will disconnect and come out.

Otherwise, all it will likely take is a phillips head screwdriver to take out a screw on the underside of the unit that keeps the drive in place. You should then be able to remove it.

both are fairly expensive laptops....only the really less expensive ones or the ultra-portables have fixed drives....
just open the drive and gently try to pull it out....if it doesnt come out that way open the back case and look for screws attached to it as Bog has said..!!

The T61 and R61 drives are not interchangeable. The T61 uses a slimmer drive which is why it is thinner than the T61. The R61 drive is too big height wise.
