Hi.
Looking to purchase a new ThinkPad X240.
Browsing on Lenova website, they have Memory and SSD upgrades available. But at a higher price than I want to spend.
Would prefer to buy 8GB of memory and 256GB SSD at a cheaper price online.
Question for those who have upgraded hardware on this machine.
Is removing/replacing the HHD and Memory on this machine difficult?
Are they embedded into the machine?
Thanks.
TC.

There's one 4GB memory module soldered to the board on the X240, leaving one free slot and a 12GB memory maximum. I believe the bottom comes off the X240 with the removal of some screws, which gives you access to the memory and hard drive. It's all in the HMM if you want to take a look.

Hey Guys.
Thanks very much for your quick replies.
Found the Youtube demo regarding the memory replacement. Sensitive lifting the the cover, but doable.
One more quick question:
I am looking at Samsung Electronics 840 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5-Inch SATA III Notebook Kit Version Internal Solid State Drive. Link: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00E3W19CE for my SSD replacement.
It's a kit containing the SSD + Adapter. Performs the full HDD to SDD upgrade.
Is this SDD (840 EVO) compatible with ThinkPad X240?
If not can you recommend a compatible SSD having 250GB and software to perform the upgrade.
BTW: The specs on the X240 is 500GB HDD 7200pm, 2.5''.
Thanks.

Thanks.
Your right, this SSD 250GB kit on Amazon is $135.00 a little more than what I expected.
Tiger Direct, Best Buy is $119.00 & Newegg is $123.00 for the SSD only.
Since this is my first time doing an upgrade to SSD, I wanted to play it safe and buy the kit version.

How difficult is it to add Memory & SSD on the ThinkPad X240.
