Im planning on picking one of these up from a local seller. It has the ATI video card and I was wondering how common this problem was.

It's all over the internet, but I'm just wondering if the problem was bloated out of proportion, or if it was actually a large scale problem.

If it was an isolated issue blown out of proportion I think I'll go ahead and get it, but if it was actually a common problem, I'll pass.

It's less common, though not zero. Late in the T42s run they made some design changes which helped lessen then chances of getting the GPU flex issue. On the plus side if it does happen, it's fixable without replacing the board, unlike the T61 or R61.

Fixable how? Just gluing down the GPU to the mobo?

If it does go it's more involved than a T42 fix. You're probably going to want to have it done, but it's still most likely less than a new motherboard. Of all the T4x machines, the T43 is the least to have the flex issue because of the design changes.

Are you shooting for a 14" or 15" T43? If you don't mind XGA the Intel GPU based T43s have no flex issues, but no SXGA+ either. For a few bucks more you could probably slide into a R60, which is more rigid, though not as thin or light.
