Today i got most of my Thinkpads together (still missing 5 of them, X301, R400, X61s, T43, X31) and stacked them up one on top of each other. Here is the result, sorry about the bad photo quality i used an iPhone 3GS. This is the Super Quarter Pounder Thinkpad style.
So how big is your Thinkpad burger collection....
-
-
No sauce, salad?
Edit. -
nice collection there, if I buy one thinkpad every 5 years, it's going to take me another 65 years to get to that size. can you list the models of these thinkpads?
-
Holy moly, that's one Big Mac of a collection you got ther lead_org. The most I had one time is 4, but currently only have 2 with me which is like having the burger baps without the filling...
Kent T likes this. -
From top down.
1. X60 <--- slightly damaged in the corner, after dropping it.
2. X200
3. T40 14.1 inch
4. T41 14.1 inch
5. T42 15 inch with SXGA+ IPS LCD (motherboard got fixed by me, and is now broken again, typical detaching ATI GPU problem). <-- i am getting a T60 15 inch laptop so this IPS LCD will get resurrected.
6. T400s (i swapped my spare X200 + some cash)
7. T61 (14.1 inch widescreen)
8. T400
9. T60 14.1 inch Intel GPU
10. T60 14.1 inch ATI X1300 GPU
11. T500 with Intel GPU
12. R61 15.4 inch
13. R500 with ATI GPU
14. R61 15.4 inch
I forgot about my trusty old Z61t.... where is that machine... -
Thanks lead, you should get a medal, this gives me a good idea on the sizes of different series. No Workstation?
-
i use to have a W500 and 2 x T61p, but i sold them off. W500 to a friend whom does lot of CAD design and T61p because i was afraid of the Nvidia GPU problem.
I was thinking about W510 but i am unsure at the moment, i can wait. I am eyeing a used W500 from a friend... so i could add that to a collection if he upgrades to a W701. (i will probably get the W500 for around 400 AUD, which is a steal for an A1 condition machine with 2 years warranty remaining)....
I am thinking about a W700 or a W701, but it is just bit too big and i am now mostly using my X200, T400s, X61s as my daily machines. So i am not too sure, whether i want to get a W7xx class machines. -
Impressive stack! Just out of curiosity, why do you use both the X61s and the X200? Is there anything the X61s does better? Longer batterylife?
-
X61s and X200 weighs about the same, which is rather impressive, considering the X200 is larger than X61 in the length department (this is how it fits a full size keyboard). -
My question would be how can you use that many computers? I debate whether to pick a second ThinkPad, either a T60 or R60 to do the UXGA mod. While it'd be great to have as a couch surfing machine, it wouldn't get a lot of use and I don't like to buy things just to have them.

lineS of flight Notebook Virtuoso
Very impressive collection lead_org! No wonder you know a lot about Thinkpads!
-
And I thought there was no official Lenovo Outlet & Service in Australia...
Congratulations on your collection, though I would say it's a gourmet meal quality-wise, not a burger (junk food and all...).
Edit: It's approximately a different TP every day for 3 weeks or so! Seriously crazy! -
lineS of flight Notebook Virtuoso
@lead_org...congrats on your MVP certification. -
i can't use that many thinkpads, the most i can use is about 3 at a time.
The reason i have this many thinkpads is that I just love the design of thinkpads. You can trace the design evolution of these products, and how manufacturability, engineering/design, quality and cost factors play against each other.
It is like some people whom collects expensive fountain pens, they probably wouldn't use them, but same sort of logic applies.
You can't do this with other laptops.... where they chase fads and replicate design elements of other high selling laptops, obviously 'envious' of other fruit company's category killer.

Thinkpad is probably one of those Wagyu beef burgers with toppings of fine truffles and Beluga caviar. But admittedly i do like the oily double beef cheeseburgers better.
@lines of flight, so moving to EU in the near future? -

JabbaJabba ThinkPad Facilitator
Seriously though, that is one big stack of ThinkPads for one person (with or without the 5 missing).
While I am a ThinkPad geek as well, the most I have had at one time was 8, but I only used 3 while the remaining 5 were bought for reselling purposes and never used. -
@JabbaJabba, which thinkpads do you have now?
I assume you still have the X200, X61s, T500. -
JabbaJabba ThinkPad Facilitator
So down to X61s and T500. I actually "have" one more X61s and one X61. But technically they are not mine anymore as I gave these to family members who used some terrible Acer Aspire laptops which were breaking down.
Will be getting a X201 Tablet soon and work will probably soon issue an Elitebook to relieve my X61s - have mixed feelings about this. -
Okay. So you are getting a 12.1 inch Elitebook? or are they giving you a bigger machine?
So how do you like your T500 right now? -
JabbaJabba ThinkPad Facilitator
I decide which model it will be and since I travel extensively I will pick the 2540p.
The T500 is great in many ways, plenty of screen real estate, high res, lots of power and extra storage via Ultrabay. However, it is just too big and heavy for my liking so I plan on going back to ultraportables purely and the X201 Tablet will be my main personal laptop. -
that is nice. You are a true road warrior JabbaJabba.

Here's mine:
Top to bottom:
240x
x200
755
w500
t400
600e
600e
600e
t42
t41
t40
t30
t60
t60p
Not shown, one t41, which is at my parent's house. I use that to surf the web over there when I'm visiting.
I don't have as many as Lead org, but I surprised myself when I stacked all mine together. Didn't know I had that many around. They all still work but the ones in use are the w500 and x200, and the t400, which belongs to my wife. My son spilled White Out on the 240x, which is why there's white spots on the lid.Attached Files:

JabbaJabba ThinkPad Facilitator
And now we have a competition
-
I'd rather not post my "club sandwich" photo. Each T (only one X mixing in lately) is beautiful by itself, especially when open. I am reluctant to stack 'em all up.
-
Tastes great, less filling (no bloatware, all fresh installs from when I first got the 755 many, many years ago). -
-
I don't think I should be embarassed. I only have one T61p...oh and a new insurance policy from lenovo to go with it.
There is an art to keep a machine running and organized to be useful. So I have one home development machine and a notebook.

It is a really a burger fest right now....
380ED is really a bento box, our X301/T400s is more like the bento box lid in size. -
lead_org, I always wondered when you were going to show us a picture of your collection, I just didn't think you'd show us in a burger fashion lol. Nice to put a battery to the side as a reference.
dlai, same goes for your 755 as being two ThinkPads haha. Man one day I hope to get an Intel SSD into my X200 . -
Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
Ha. I think I win. I've got... two!
200T, 41T... I actually have a broken 43 somewhere among my heaps of eBay Dells, but it's not technically mine.Attached Files:

Regarding the laptop stacking. It was actually a well thought out process . R series is in the bottom because they are the heavy guys and the T6x/Tx00 series in the middle because they have the stronger screen reinforcement, while the X series goes on the top because they are not as strong.
The largest collection of thinkpads i had was at 25 thinkpads, when i had the W500 and 2 x T61p. I experimented with stacking and i put X60 and X61 on the bottom of the stack, when i got to about 20 laptops on top of each other, i could hear a strange noise from the X60. So i have learnt my lesson and now the X60 goes on the top. -
Here is my TWO thinkpads lol
The one on the bottom is my T61 15.4 incher, and the one on top is my X301.

As an aside, I really am liking the T500. I'm keeping the T400 around as a backup machine or when/if I want to change things up a bit, but the T500's got significantly better GPU power. I do game a fair bit as well and while the T400 could play Fallout 3 on medium settings it wasn't the most enjoyable experience. The T500 can play Fallout 3 on mostly high settings and quite smoothly at that.
Other than that, the WSXGA resolution is awesome, and the T500 seems to have better keyboard bracing than the T400. The T400 had mild flex; the T500 is rock solid. This is after checking and finding out I've got the 'swiss cheese' keyboard in this one, as well. -
@LegendaryKA8... i like the Bento box, is replacement LCD for the 380ED still easily sourced? -
Lead - Yes, I figured I'd make the two fingers to add some humor, since I only had two Thinkpads lol Yes, that is an Omega Seamaster (2531.80 "Bond" watch to be exact). Thanks for the comment Watches is my "other" hobby
-
@lead_org: A quick Feebay search came up with two used replacements. About $25USD shipped for either one. Mine's in surprisingly nice shape; traded a coworker a car stereo for it a couple years ago. Needs a new system battery and a power adapter as the one for my T21 just quit, too. It'll take a standard 2.5" PATA HDD but it's a bit difficult to get to, though. The 380ED's kind of the precursor to the R-series, and lacks the nicer finish and refinement of the 600/700 series. Besides that, the plan is to find a hard copy of W95 one of these days and use it as a 'retro' gaming TP.
-
i got a hard copy of windows 95 if you want it. It should be in the garage somewhere. PM me your address i will post it to you.
@MikesDell.... oh boy... another money burning hobby... -
Speaking of spending money, I was thinking of adding yet another thinkpad to my collection. Before I do so though, (since I NEVER have used an Apple computer before) I went to my local Apple store today to check out the new MB Air's. I was really impressed. The screen quality was fantastic, it was fast, easy to use, etc. Much thinner than my X301.
I ended up talking with an Apple guy for like 45min. on the Mac Vs. Windows debate. I told him my love for Thinkpads, and he just kept saying "once you go Mac you won't go back".
At the end of the day, I just could not justify buying an Apple computer when I have two 100% running, like new condition Thinkpads at home. -
The reason I didn't order one is because my wife and family get my hand me downs. So there's training and more software down the line. We're pretty heavily invested in software and tools already on Windows so it isn't a trivial decison or change.
Funny, I am hearing the same thing from the iPhone folks that are considering Windows Phone 7. They are all saying they are so heavily invested on the apps on their iPhone or iPad, they can't switch.
I was in the Apple store today returning an item and spent some time looking at the 11 and 13" Airs. Looks like a fine machine but I am very comfortable with my T410s Optimus purchase.
Maybe later I'll reconsider after the rest of the world shakes all the bugs out of running Windows 7 on the Air. I'm not interested in testing that path right now. -
That's a lot of Thinkpads....
-
the 11 inch Macbook Air is quite good as a netbook alternative, but serious work i would still use the Thinkpad X200 and T400s. Also, lot of people is complaining about the removal of the backlit keyboard features on the new Macbook Air machines, which makes it inconvenient for use in dark areas.
-
so jealous...
-
I looked at the title and thought there was some kind of Thinkpad themed burger somewhere, didn't seem so farfetched because I saw a Windows 7 burger on Engadget
-
Same concept, different meat.
My stack would be W510, two T61p's, MacBook Pro 15" (cheese), T60p, T400, T410, and the T410s. -
best thread eva !!!!!
-
I'm new. I got my first ThinkPad this year. I'm only 23 though, so I think I have lots of time to grow my collection. I'm hoping to get 4-5 years out of this machine.

In fairness, I linked this in another thread demanding to see lead_org's new Thinkpad burger.
