I am in the process of purchasing a new laptop and came across some great coupon codes here. I am considering a Lenovo. However, I would strongly prefer to have easy access to the HDD.

How accessible are the HDDs on Lenovos? For example, the G460 or the U460.

    Thanks!

I can't speak for those laptops, but nearly all of them are extremely easy to access. Most likely you will have to take off the bottom of the laptop that is held on with a few screws and the hard drive is in plain view.

It has been damn easy on all the Thinkpads I have owned:

R50e - One screw, pull hard drive out.
T510 - Two screws (IIRC), lift hard drive out.
X200t - One screw, pull hard drive out.

Well, to be fair, after you take the 1 screw out, you need to take 4 more on the disk bay. :) But anyway, it takes ~5 min to replace the HD.

OK. Thank you! That is fine for me. I almost purchased a Dell 15R until I read that getting to the HDD requires practically disassembling the entire machine.

Oops, sorry I quickly read your post and sort of assumed you're talking about Thinkpads. In any case, you should look up the service manuals. They usually have it somewhere under Support online and it's explained with pictures how to swap user-replaceable parts (such as hard drive).

No worries. Thanks for the follow-up. I was able to find the manual on the Lenovo site and access to the HDD is easy.
