Im interested in getting this notebook, but i want to make sure there is no issues with the build quality. Can someone please comment on the overall build, and if there is any noticeable flex anywhere on the laptop? Thanks.

IIRC from reading some posts, the SL410 in good Lenovo fashion, seems to have good build quality. I've never had one myself however, so I can't personally vouch for that, please keep that in mind. :)

Pretty good build but doesn't have the internal support structure like "real" thinkpads. That being said if you compared it to consumer grade machines I imagine you will find it to your liking as far as build quality goes.

Yeah, to my knowledge, they are alright, but not as good as the reg Thinkpads, they are more for a budget stricken person :) I'm sure they would beat any other notebook out there though..

I would suggest to the OP if anything, if it's within your budget, consider the G series. According to a review done here, they are built like a tank (the G550 anyway). If you go that route I would go so far as to recommend a G460 because of arrandale. You'll get better performance and be a little more future-proof. :)

The DC jack problem was on the sl500 not 510 actually... no idea if it was fixed or not (the case has slightly changed in between those models).

I've handled a sl510 for a few hours and while it's no "true" thinkpad, the build quality seems quite decent. The screen cover can be twisted a bit more than I'd like but no ripples appeared on the screen. It is thick, especially due to the thick cover, but decently light. The keyboard was comfortable to type on (good feedback) but bent under pressure. You wouldn't notice coming from a consumer laptop.

I would agree with Kevin O'Brien would did the review of both the SL510 and g550 and wrote: "The SL510 feels a good deal better than the G550, although I am not sure which would be more "durable". The G-series has the Rubbermaid feel going for it" In my opinion, the sl510 looks like a serious laptop (all black matte) while the g550 looks cheap.

I would rather get a Lenovo Edge, the SL series are THICK. The quality and durability is not on par with the real Thinkpad notebook.

The Edge series is a little weak, i think the only cpu option is a 1.3ghz processor. Dont you think the SL will have a better build then the Edge series?

Only the 13" model comes with CULV processors. As for build quality, I'd say they're both equally under-par. May as well go for some style.

    edge 14": (WxDxH): 13.54" x 9.17" x 1.25-1.46"; 344 x 233mm x 31.8-37.0mm
    sl410: (WxDxH): 13.54" x 9.17" x 1.26-1.42"; 344mm x 233mm x 32-36mm

    edge 15": (WxDxH): 14.96" x 9.72" x 1.27-1.48"; 380 x 247mm x 32.3-37.5mm
    sl510: (WxDxH): 14.9" x 9.72" x 1.26-1.42"; 380 x 247mm x 32-36mm

Actually... the Edge 14-15" are even thicker than the SL
