Every since I got my thinkpad my trackpoint was very choppy. This made it difficult to make fine movements. After months of being annoyed I found the issue. The problem I had was the pointer speed in the mouse options was too fast, this was the option in the windows based pointer options NOT the ultranav options. Once I slowed that down my trackpoint stopped being choppy. There seems to be a threshold of about two notches before maximum speed that the trackpoint becomes choppy.

Figured I would document this for everyone incase anyone else is having an issue.
