The t400s uses the new samson high performance ssd drives.

Do the newly shipped x301 units have the higher performance drives?

thanks for the info if anyone knows the answer.

The other threads on the subject are too dated.

Just to remind you, as of recently Lenovo has started using Toshiba SSDs as well. There are a few posts around here and even reviews of T400s with a Toshiba SSD drive instead of Samsung (see HotHardware's review for instance).

Both Samsungs and Toshibas are used by Lenovo and are both very good SSDs. I have yet to see an indepth review of the Toshiba, so I would hope to get a Samsung instead.

    Hi,

I bought a X301 in late July and it came with the 1st generation Samsung SSD.

It appears these drives have read and writes of 100/80MB/s by the benchmarks provided in my post in this thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=5269676&postcount=53 . The newer drives seem to have read and writes of 220/210MB/s.

The hardware maintenance manual for the X301 doesn't list the FRU for the newer Samsung SSD, but if you are looking at buying a X301 I would definitely push for the newer MMCRE28G8MXP drive with a FRU of 45N7953.
