It's about 99% Dell and other mainstream brands like HP, Toshiba, Sony, etc. at my school. How about yours?
-
I've never seen anyone using a Lenovo or an Asus, but I went ahead and got a V1s. Whatever. Mine outperforms all of them (except maybe x205).
-
most people that i work with use thinkpads
-
My company is exclusively Dell Latitude, at meetings with others I see mostly Latitudes and HP business laptops, with a few Thinkpads thrown in. My college is mostly Inspirons.
-
At college I don't think I've seen anyone with a thinkpad ever. The laptops I notice the most around campus are Macs.
-
Most students at my school have macbooks. Anyone who doesn't is usually a gamer. The school rents out Thinkpads to the CS kids also.
-
I've only seen one person use thinkpad ever and it was on the train (I live in London)
I think one it's the price in the UK, second it's most ppl in the UK prefers Dell HP and Sony.
When I was at uni, it's like a Sony show room, everyone uses Sony. But by the time I used a powerbook which was hardly seen in the UK. -
I am constantly ridiculed by others because I do not have an Apple.
Well...not quite...but close.
I am the only person I know that has a ThinkPad.
Feels great though . -
Every single student here (UNC) has a Thinkpad. That's 27,000+. It's convenient though. I forgot to bring my A/C adapter to the library one day so I go downstairs to the IT help desk and they just give me another one out of the tons they have.
-
Pretty much ubiquitous at my alma mater(RPI) - 600E, T20, T22, T30, T40, T42, T43p, T60, now T61. Every student is required to have a laptop, and the school subsidizes the cost of the Thinkpads.
-
Where I live everyone has dell. My wife works for columbia university and they all about Apple -
Well, at this office, we're purely HP.
At my old office, we were all thinkpad, which was my first experience with them and why I had no problem buying it again.

Most people where I work use a Dell, the upper management get Sony notebooks, and there are a few HP and Toshibas around. I recently rescued the only Thinkpad in the building. It is an old R51 that has gone through a lot and looks beat up however it still works fine. It has hot glue in one of the USB ports since someone broke that, and anytime a USB device was plugged into the port the nortebook would shut off.
-
I have a friend who bought a Macbook Pro after his buddy advertised it. The lid couldn't close probably anymore after the first fall from the TV. -
pretty rare
I go to ASU...many students have dells. Some have Apples but I rarely see Thinkpads.
If I do, it is usually either a business man/woman or an Asian student using a T43 or something. -
everyone in all the UCs either has Dells, or macbooks, and the occasional HP/toshiba. i was going to be one of the only ones with a thinkpad, but my friends asked me about recommendations, and i told them about the thinkpad's features, and they are all getting one now >_>.
o well, at least i helped them out -
My college has everything and anything. I pity the helpdesk people.
-
All my clients have Thinkpads, Most of my fellow consultants have Dells, One has a 17 inch MB Pro.
I will have a 7500 61p I think. -
Dell city at my college, with the occasional toshiba. Here's what I noticed...When someone whips out the newer Dells or anything with multicolored cases or glossy screens, the oooohs and aaaahs start. But when I take out my t60p its like solemn quiet respect, nothing but silent stares.
-
I don't think I've ever seen a Thinkpad here at RIT, but I'll definitely be keeping an eye out when school starts again.
There are tons of Dells and HPs around though. -
I was at a coffee shop a few Sundays ago, and there were about 10 people uses notebooks there.
All ThinkPads. It was pretty awesome.
Usually, though, I just see Sony, Dells, or HPs. And lots of 'em.
I'll update this once I start University in a week and see what's the majority there. Probably not much different. -
Most of the people at my university have some form of Toshiba, Dell, HP, Sony. I know of one other person that has a thinkpad, my room mate.

My former employer (before becoming self-employed) only bought ThinkPads. Thank God for that.
My employer before that only bought Dell Latitudes.
Huge difference in feel and aesthetics. The Latitudes don't even come close to feeling as "professional' as the ThinkPads. Despite build quality they just feel, look and are too plasticy IMO. -
it was pretty rare, until this past year. for some reason, the lower prices and timing of the stage in life of my friends saw 6 thinkpads get sold. (2 x60t's, an x60s, an x61s, and 2 t61's)

My techy friends say: IBM = HARDCORE!
Rest: IBM = What? -

In the old days it was more or less only professional users who owned one (usually purchased by their employer).
Nowadays anyone can buy a ThinkPad - especially in low priced markets like the US where they are just ridiculously cheap.
Regardless ThinkPads are still excellent notebooks. -
-
-
When I see someone use a thinkpad in public place, that person is either a business man or some kind of high worker who demands on durable and quality.
Kids in my schools most likely buy a Dell or HP, and I see them crying about dropping or spilling -

Screw exclusivity! If I wanted exclusivity, I would go buy a notebook with a glowing fruit on it. Then I would talk all day and night about my glowing fruit notebook on Digg!
Thinkpads are about getting things done. Whatever task you have at hand, it will get completed.
(Note to Lenovo: please make a notebook with a glowing IBM logo ) -
Resemble. I'm a college kid with a T61.

but still be a kid inside .
I've never much been that. I've been working full time since I was 15 (while completing high school over a year early), so I'm more of a workaholic than anything else.
Anyways, to get back on topic...
I love my ThinkPad. While many consider the design kinda boring, I prefer it. It's a bold, serious look. -
There are two Thinkpads that I know of at my university. The guy across the hall from me has a Thinkpad 240 and a girl I know in my major has one that I don't know the model of. That's all I've ever seen of Thinkpads at a school with 20k+ students. Just about everything else is Dell, HP, or Apple in that order.
-
I am in the military, see all flavors of laptops. Mostly Dell ( lattitudes or Precissions), HP workstations, MAC's, Sonys, Toshibas, Acers. Ocassionally, a older T42 or T60. I love bringing my new 2 week old T61 too meetings now. I have the Smart Card reader on my T61, so it is very, very convenient.
-
..oh. -
Thinkpads make me feel like a tool in the rat race, serving the man. But a sharp, well compensated corporate tool.
-
I know among my immediate circle of friends, I'm the only one with a Thinkpad. My friends all have MacBooks or Dells or HPs; however, I haven't actually been to my college campus yet -- I am expecting many MacBooks, MacBook Pros, and Dell's because those are all that's sold through my school.
-
We have a combination Dell and Thinkpads at my job. I do a lot of field service so I travel to customer sites quite often. I have to say that I see about 50% Thinkpad, 40% Dell, and 10% HP.
-
Most people with laptops at my school that I've noticed are HP/Compaqs, Apples, Sony VAIOs but mostly Toshibas since they're "recommend brand" at my school. There are a few Acers and Dells tossed in here and there. One girl in my class had an older Thinkpad that was inherited from her dad. However, most of my professors use either a Thinkpad or Apple notebook. Only one person out of my friends has even heard of Lenovo.

Big toys that people like to mess up.
A lot. -
At the U of Chicago, I seen a Thinkpad every few weeks or so, except at the business school, where everybody has one. Macs and Dells and HPs everywhere. However, at the hospital, I saw a kid with a Thinkpad and a huge half-eaten fruit sticker on it. *shudder
-
I've only seen one other person with a thinkpad...and he was an international student from HK
How "exclusive" is ThinkPad in your environment?
