    Hi,

I recently bought a IBM T42. I am v happy with the machine, it is very comfortable to use. But, the vent on the side of the laptop seems to emit hot air. If my left hand is placed on the side of the laptop, the hot air blows right on to my hand & this bothers me. Is this case with most IBMs? Just wanted to know if this is fine.

    Thanks...

this is the case with any laptop, there has to be some kind of cooling mechanism. With most any notebook of this size it has to use a fan to vent the warm air generated by the processor and other internals. If it weren't emitting hot air then you'd need to worry because the components would overheat and your T42 would fry!
