My IPS had a bright non-uniform stripe across it, so IBM technician came to replace it (he confirmed that it looked like a mnaufacturing defect). But he put in a non-IPS UXGA !!! I showed him a Flexview UXGA, and the difference was glaringly apparent. Think 14.1" SXGA+ screens [IMG]

If, when you purchased the notebook, it clearly stated IPS screen...you are entitled to that. Ask for a replacement again.

you should do a parts look up and get the original FRU/MFG number and demand the same one. If out of stock (not sure about this) maybe you can ask them to buy from 3rd party supplier?

Either way once you get the part number go to

    http://www-132.ibm.com/content/home/store_IBMPublicUSA/en_US/parts/parts_main.html

and try to see if they still carry it

(and yes you should probably ask them to change our your case at the same, cut down the down time and maybe they will be more accommodating given the screw up)

yea doesn't surprise me - IPS screens are EOL ergo they're not being made anymore. Can't even get them on the MBPs. There might be a few IPS screens still floating around from 3rd party sources - more likely refurbished.

locate a third party supplier and ask lenovo/ibm if they will try to work something out

    what is the fru/part number?

maybe try contacting Matt Kohut from lenovoblogs.com

The FRU is 92P6753. So any supplier that has that FRU has a flexview screen right? Thanks for the pointer to Matt Kohut. I'll call IBM early tomorrow morning and see what they say.

no dice.i would demand the exact replacement. if not, dont even waste your time. make them credit you towards a new laptop the entire purchase price of yours when you bought it. doing this is not at all out of line. you are entitled to the exact replacement of your screen or better. take it to the top immediately. that is totally unnaceptable.

I just called them, and CSR said that her system said that the correct part number was shipped out (she could not see flexview or non-flexview). She double checked.

This is bad, really bad. This means that flexview LCDs are essentially not covered under existing warranties anymore.

How do I contact Matt Kohut ? Just leave him a random comment on one of his posts ?

You might want to PM Mark Hopkins. He is very helpful with warranty issues. He is on this board once in a while and is on the lenovo forums.
