Lenovo has updated/changed their Thinkpad configuration pages.

I like the running total "float" on the right hand side, and the way options have part numbers listed - and the cost differential of your choices updates as you make selections. Also, you can jump around between 1.System Components, 2.Accessories and services and 3.Summary pages without re-doing ALL of your options selections! very cool! (reminds me of Gateway's config pages, only better...)

Overall better user experience IMO - but some choices have gone away. On-site extended warranties ONLY - no more extended service depot repair plans?! A 3 yr on-site plan vs. the 3 yr depot plan is another $100.

Also missing is the great discount on MS Office Small Business edition. Did not even see it offered?! Oh well, can install that "aftermarket" vs. their $499 offer for Office Pro...

On the other hand, you can config a T60p with 15.0" SXGA+ Flexview, or a Z61m with a 15.4" WXGA or WSXGA+; all 200nit displays (I love nits).

System RAM selection also includes details - before you might be getting PC2-4200 (533MHz) RAM when you selected the 2 GB option, now it is clear if you will get PC2-4200 (533MHz), or PC2-5300 (667MHz).

So all you shoppers and wish-listers (like me) can re-configure over and over again to your hearts content! :D

I just configured the exactly setup as I ordered, the price is $ 200 more than the price I ordered yesterday.

Ya I am in the same boat except my difference is $350. I cannot figure out why such a huge difference. I did a config last night and it came out to $1943. Today the exact same comes out to $2293.

    That sucks!

I was going to wait until 11/28 to see what is available in terms of widescreens but pull the trigger either way before the sale ends on the 11,12th whatever. Now though..... $350 is a huge difference.

I to like the running total and the additional info and part numbers.

Something tells me people should be ordering now before the price goes even higher come Dec. I was thinking the price could only go down now, goes to show how unpredictable technology is in the short term (<1 year).

The laptop in my sig that I ordered on the 9th was now $300+ more than I paid. So, I'm glad I ordered then -- I just wish it would ship. :-D

$300, wow, that is something. They are trying to sneak one, maximize Christmas sales. Wonder how good post-Christmas prices will be, any experience?

The price on the T60 I was configuring went up about 140 or so, but instead of 512mb or ram it has 2x512mb, and instead of depot warranty it has onsite. They seemed to have pushed a few enhancements I didn't really want to spend on.

Well, you can't go wrong with onsite warranty. (Although from experience, they probably know they won't have to excercise it often).

I too am interested in hearing more about post-christmas prices, if anyone has any experience with them.

Hi all this is my first go at this. Though I have been reading up for a while now looking for a Z61M with every thing you can get on it.

You are very lucky in the states to have a system configurator.
We dont get that in the UK we can only buy pre-configured systems. Please correct me if I'm wrong but I can't find any way of altering the spec on the UK web site.
I had a look on the US site & you get all the options and a running total price. It also looks as if the price in dollars is about the same as UK pounds  .

Do any of you in the UK know how to check the type of screen, sort of optical drive etc. prior to buing in the UK. I want the brightest screen, a dual layer DVD burner not single layer, ie. best spec possible as I intend to keep this a few years and use it as my only machine & ditch the huge beast on the desk. (I will however keep the wifes photo) :p
I have contacted Insight (Lenovos on-line shop keeper here) for a full spec on a NEW Z61M 9450HAG but the amount of info that came back was pitiful.

I also can't find a picture of a UK spec keyboard. Nearly all UK keyboards have a large inverted L enter key 2 rows high. All the pics I have seen are of a US keyboard with a double width single hieght rectangular blue enter key which I dont fancy at all after years of a huge enter key.

I will probably need to ask a few more quesions before ordering & would be gratefull for any help.

    Regards Tony
