How much dows your Hitachi HDD vibrate? The 7200 160GB in my T400 is silent but has a definite vibration that I can feel on the right side of the palmrest. If I hold the front of the machine with both hands I can feel the vibration throughout the whole front underside of the machine. Is this normal?

I have a HTS722016K9S and can only feel a very slight vibration if I place my hand on the right palm rest but nothing out of the ordinary.

what about if you grab the front of hte machine with your fingers underneath? That's where I feel the greatest vibration. The palmrest vibration is only noticeable if I'm pressing down fairly hard.

My Lenovo-stock Hitachi 160GB 7200RPM doesn't vibrate at all, but it's a bit too loud for my liking - just the opposite of you ;)

My drive doesn't vibrate either on the palmrest or when I grip it underneath.

Do you use your machine much with your fingers underneath?

:D No, but a vibrating drive is generally not a good thing and I'm just trying to figure out how much vibration might be normal. I'll give Lenovo a call. PITA.

yea my hitachi 7200rpm drives vibrate a lot. I also had hitachi 5400rpm drives that came with the laptop and they were very quiet.

I had a Hitachi 7200rpm 160GB HDD, and it did not vibrate at all. It is a very fine drive - for me it superior to even the WD Scorpio Blue 5400rpm HDD. There is should not be any vibration, with the rubber protection they are seated in.

I took out the drive and reseated it in the rubber bumpers and that seems to have helped a bit so now it's more of a tactile hum than vibration, which I can live with.
