    Why does the ThinkPad T42 Hitachi 60GB 7200RPM Notebook Hard Drive, Model HTS726060M9AT00 show only a capacity of 51 GB?

    Cause there is a hidden recovery partition. Windows Disk Manager or Fdisk cannot see it. You can turn it off in the bios. Then you should habe between 57-58GBs. 1000MB does not equal 1GB.
