I recently purchased a 1680 by 1050 22" external screen for my Lenovo 3000 C100. Unfortunately I just assumed that I could fit the display an run it at a high resolution, as it happens the screen will only work at the same resolution as the laptop, 1024 by 768. Updating the driver for the laptop doesn't seem to do any good, there are no settings that seem to "work", they all just go back to the standard settings.

So my question is: is it common for a laptop to not allow a higher resolution in an extended screen? If I can't change it, I can't change it, but if I can, I'll just get a technician to see if they can work things out.

That sounds odd. What type of connection is it using?

Display options, under the Control Panel, does nothing? Have you tried using the video card driver program instead?

The resolution for that mamchine is 1024x768 for the actual screen and 2048x1536 for the external screen.

Right click on the desktop, select properties and then the seetings tab. You shouild see both screen (the internal and the external) on the internal one you will only be able to scale it down to 800x600. But the External screen needs to have extend or use as primary selected. This will then allow you to upo the resolution to fit your needs.

Hope this helps. You can also do as I do and simply use the external monitor for the real stuff and leave outlook or what ever running on the laptops display
