I'm interested in getting one of these beasts. I know the old Thinkpad case hasnt changed in years so i'm reluctant in getting one in case they completely redesign the thing next year. For now, however, I was wondering if anyone has any high res. photos of the T400/T500's that i could view to give me a better picture of what i should expect if i did order one.

Be happy with what you buy? It’s not like a car—some of us are not buying the ThinkPad strictly because of its hip styling.

Don't expect them to change anytime soon either.

I don't know why you are so concerned with keeping up with the Jones'?

yes i know, i'm not buying it for styling either. but you know-- good styling along wouldnt be bad, would it.

also quick question for you. as seen in your sig along with those of others, why do you have 4 gigs of ddr3 listed? when i go to config. page the max shown is 3 gigs. unless youre putting in your own memory...

If good styling means paying more or detracting from build quality, it hurts.

It seems from the battery picture below that you could open the 6-cell version 180 degrees, while the 9 cell battery you could not. Can someone confirm this?

    This is correct.

Also let me know if you want any specific shot of the T400 or T500 in full res from my Pentax K20. I was thinking about doing some hi-res macro teardown shots if anyone was interested.

I'd like some shots directly from the sides (both lid closed and open) to get a better idea of the thickness of the laptop and the relative size of the battery, both 6 and 9 cell if possible.

    Kevin,

Any chance you can let us now what kind of screen your T500 has? You mentioned it was problem free and I'm hoping I get the same one, however, if it was a Samsung, which apparently was the problem one, I'll be less concerned. Thanks.

Did you see the corners rubbed off again? I hate Lenovo's rubber finishing which isn't durable at all. They rub off and scratch easily and then you've got a very ugly notebook after that.

I think its perfectly styled. Its like beauty and the beast. While the beauty try to look all nice and pretty, the beast just tears sh*t up! DDR3, cant touch that!

If lenovo redesign the thinkpad completely, then they will shoot themselves in the head.

Actually, I prefer the thinkpad T400 to the Dell E6400 simply because of the style. :p

Heh, yeah, some other object in the shot for comparison would be useful. And preferably not closeup shots. I find it's harder to get a sense of the size when the shots are from right next to the notebook.

    Much appreciated.

Having taken my $650 Gateway apart a few times, I can appreciate how quality those Thinkpad internals are. Very nice.

I could host some shots if needed.

    Ahh sunlight

I took images of all 4 quadrants of the T400 motherboard section at 4672 x 3104. Anyone want to try and stitch them together for a HUGE shot?

kev get some nice shots of the exterior for me. comparison of the t400 to a 15 inch notebook, t500 perhaps. just a few photos that would give me a good idea as to what this notebook looks like.

also, if you have the 9 cell, stick something next to it so i can get an idea as to how big that thing actually is.

    thanks.
