It appears that I am one of the few that is not having any issues with their T61 and I am very fortunate that I do not have any "problems" that affect the use of my new notebook computer. I did get 1 dead pixel, but I can live with that (first time in my life to have one on a unit...which I think is lucky as I have so many).

    Problem:
I got the 100gb 7200rpm HDD option and when I have the unit on "Max Performance" setting the HDD whines continuously and on other settings, it would whine every time it runs. Is this normal? I have never had 7200rpm option on my PowerBooks before and I don't know anyone that has 7200rpm on their portable.

On the other hand, I have tried a lot of stuff with T61 and it is running very well. I didn't do the clean install, but I restored the system with custom options to remove a few unwanted applications from being installed. Very solid machine....not as solid as aluminum PowerBook, but it doesn't feel cheap like Dell plastic.

I got a T400. same wird heigh requenzy sound. Only occurs if on batterie. I called Lenovo support. they told me it is due to C2d and it occurs in all NB's like Dell/Toshiba/HP. I should put energy option on "balanced". slightly better now, but shorter batterie life time.

It's more likely than not that the high pitch noise is created by the processor and not your harddrive. The Core 2 Duo series is known for producing high pitch noise when changing between different power states. There's a lot of threads about this issue that you can search for.
