On my T61p. Seems to be about 3.5GB, the majority of which is a monster INSTALL.WIM file. A little googling on INSTALL.WIM would suggest this directory is a Windows Anytime Upgrade thing that Lenovo uses to do the initial install of the OS (in my case Vista).

So, anyone know of any reason I can't delete this thing? Any of the ThinkVantage tools rely on it?

    Isn't that the recovery directory?

Interesting, I wonder if that's Windows Anytime Upgrade... will have to stick in the factory HDD and check.

Dunno. Isn't there a special partition for that? This is on the regular old C drive, just with the Hidden attribute marked. I haven't done the "one time recovery disks" creation thing yet tho. I need to get some blank DVDs first. Think that directory might disappear when I do?

Does this mean I only need these files if I were to upgrade my Windows Vista Business to a 'better' version?

I've ZIP'ed and dumped the entire folder on a file server, and gotten a couple of GB's of free space :)

You don't really need these files, if for some reason you want to run windows any time upgrade you can also download the files or pay MS a couple bucks to ship them to you on a DVD. I'm not sure how Lenovo's restore system works though, so perhaps they are required for that, but i doubt it since they have their own partition for system restores. (assuming you haven't already deleted that like I have ;) )

Nope, keeping the hidden partition...

But I am doing the same to the SWTOOLS folder though. ;)

I assume that you backed up the SWTools folder first? Lots of stuff there you might need someday...

What is the exact location of the WAUUPGRD folder? It must be C:\Windows\???

I am going to provide information in my guide as to how to burn an Anytime Upgrade Disk using this folder.

    Thanks!
