I have decided to delete the hidden partition of my new T61.

I have created the rescue media, backed up SW_Tools, and am now ready to format that space eating beast we all love as the recovery partition...

however, i am unable to access it... in any way... i tried enabling it in the bios.. but when i load the bios and go into security, there is no predesktop option as stated by a number articles suggesting ways to delete the partition. I'd like to be able to use diskpart, or fdisk to partition and then extend my remaining C: drive.

Any idea why I shouldn't be able to find this predesktop option in the bios? And secondly any other ideas regarding an easy way to delete this annoying little space hog.

    Thanks!

Search "diskpart" in these forums and you'll get your answer.

The hidden partition takes up less than 6GB of space. If you can spare that 6GB, I would suggest you keep it. Comes in super handy when the occasion arises.

what if your hidden partition has a lower grade version of the OS?

It's of no use then? (for example, OEM OS is Vista Basic and current OS is Ultimate)

Use any partition program can delete the hidden partition. The hidden partition is FAT format and is inactive mode. (Just a thought, if you set it active, you might see it or use it)
I use the old dos FDISk to delete all partitions. Do not partition it with any program, vista will not install in these partitions. You can have VISTA partition and format the HD when you install it.

you can use acronis to delete this hidden partition. I am in the same situation as you unr1, i have a basic backup when i run ultimate.

I know someone that actually managed to con an ultimate backup set of dvd's from lenovo even though he purchased basic. Don't know how he did it, but he did.
