Hi I'm from Bangkok If you guys have heard about the situation in Bangkok with protesters on the street...yes that's right. It sucks......anyway Nice to found this web board because I have a little clues with T410S that I ordered from Thai's dealer.
Once there were not so much reviews about this machine's size then I could not imagine if between T410s with standard screen(LED TFT 1440 x 900) and T410s ( same but with multi-touch screen ) are different in terms of size (depth and weight). When I called dealer and asked him about this question, he said the multi-touch is not given any different depth from normal screen and also weights are the same so I decided to ordered the multi-touch screen one with i5 520m 2.4 GHz hard disk drive 5400 RPM S-ATA and other standard options which they are not so much different but except the switchable graphic one and the SSD.
I would like to ask if there are some guys here using this machine because from what I found on reviews are mostly positive, no one implied this machine in terms of heavier and thicker than standard screen.
My question is... Is it much heavier and how weight it's if compare to T410s without multi-touch screen
....and How depth it is more thicker than standard screen one
.....and is it practical in term of mobility also the applications are still less available to be used for touch screen to make it's useful.
Thank you for you guys in advance and sorry if my English is not clear LOL(as it's my second language and I don't use it for my everyday life LOL)

No it's not heavier and I doubt you'll notice a difference in thickness. However I find that the multi touch screen is not worth it. In the beginning you'll really like it but down the road you'll rarely use it.
It's not that it's useless, but it's not worth the extra $400. You'll be much better off getting the 80GB SSD instead of the 5400rpm disk. -
Hi "mythos1453" Thank you so much for your suggestion. I already canceled order from Lenovo just after I have read your reply and it's reminded me how often I'm going to use touch screen. It needs two days to re-order still I have time to make new decision.
Would you help me decide? I'm thinking about to choose SSD 128 but with or without switchable graphic NVDIA NVS. ( all i5 520M no choice)
I'm not a gamer but I am an artist so I do use it quite often with photoshop, in design, illustrator., all those useful programs for my career from Adobe design premium but still I use premiere pro to edit video. It does work well on my desktop to editing and cutting my video but is switchable graphic with NVS system really worth for 125 USD add up ? I have to be aboard away from my home for art exhibition in a few months. In this case I would maybe use this T410S for sometime edit video. Is intel GMA working well for editing and cutting video documentary? Is GMA good enough for my work style?
Please anyone help me to figure out if i save my budget now or will be regret later didn't choose switchable graphic with NVidia NVS Switchable Graphics 512MB ?
ps. on my macbook pro's system it's working well with editing video on Pr and Ae program but the reason I go for T410S is size and weight. It's slimmer and lighter than mac. -
IMHO, T400s is not that useful with a touch screen. Its a gimmick thats all, if you really want a touch screen you are better off buying a dedicated tablet.

"nomik2" yes cool feature is the first reason i ran for touch screen nothing behind but after realized with my conscience reason LOL. I'm better back to the faster system.

Drive:
The 128GB SSD is either a Samsung or a Toshiba (prob. Samsung), however AFAIK these drives don't support TRIM. You mind wonder wth is TRIM . Well the performance of an SSD drops significantly (depends on usage) as you fill it up, TRIM is a function that restores it to its brand new state. If your drive doesn't support that you need to zero it out with a software in order to get its original performance.
I'd recommend getting the 80GB SSD Intel, I can confirm its a G2 (supports TRIM). If you google a bit you'll see its one of the best drives available. With the money saved you can get a cheap high capacity drive and put it in the place of the optical drive.
Screen:
I had read a lot of negative comments about the screen of the T410s. It was so bad I was thinking of cancelling my order (I'm glad I didn't). Personally I find the screen ok for working: browsing, typing documents, presentations, MATLAB etc. However I don't like watching videos on it at all. The screen on the MacBook is much better for this.
Graphics:
I have no idea about this. -
Hi mythos1453 Thank you for the information about TRIM support on SSD. I did not have any idea about this system. I google a bit and I found the way to reset SSD http://www.iishacks.com/index.php/2...e-erase-reset-an-intel-solid-state-drive-ssd/
It seems to be unconvenience process compare to HHD which I just create shortcut for this " %windir%\system32\rundll32.exe advapi32.dll,ProcessIdleTasks " windows control to refresh my computer.
so I decide to follow your suggestion to choose intel G2 just enough for the windows operation system and some other programs installed and I will install bay hard drive for HDD as and optional hard drive to storage files.
ANW After I have read your reply I went to google and try to understand from reading reviews about this solid state drive and some other topics on this web board about how it's different between these two options and i found most of peoples rather choose 80 GB intel G2 than samsung because TRIM support.
Thank you so much mythos1453 -
