Well I finally decided that I've had it with my t60 idling at over 60 deg C and took it apart to get to the fan assembly. Now that I have it out, I see there are 3 points at which it contacts the mobo - at the CPU, at the GPU, and at what I presume to be the northbridge.

Now my question is - there is a THICK slab of some thermal material between on the assembly where the GPU and northbridge is. Is it safe to replace this junk with artic silver or another thermal compound? I can upload pics if you guys need

    THank you
