I've had this thing about a month or maybe a bit more, and I just can't get the screen to get how I like it. I'm wondering if those here might have some suggestions.

I have the widescreen T61, with the integrated graphics. My issue is that a) the screen just doens't get very bright, and it seems the brighter I set it, the fuzzier it gets. It is pretty good on AC, but battery it really goes in the crapper. The other issue is that the contrasts seems to mush together too. Like the light blue around this text box just doesn't contrast much with the white, and some of the whites seem very bright, almost like its just shining like a flashlight and not showing a good, crisp white. I really would like more contrast, and more crispness, and a bit more brightness. I feel when I adjust one, another adjustment turns crappy. Is there a way to optimize this? It is particularly noticeable at the bottom of the screen.

I'm not a computer guru, so maybe this is just not possible with the T61 widescreen and the integrated graphics. thing is I had an old Fujitsu S series before this, and while it wasn't so crisp, the contrast and brightness and colors were very well done. that computer had the integrated graphics as well.

Suppose I was just expecting more from a better made Lenovo. Really the screen has been my biggest disappointment, and the one thing I think I liked better on my Fujitsu. build quality/sturdiness is far superior on the Lenovo.

Anyway, any help with the graphics settings and the recommended built in brightness are very helpful. If eventually I feel willing to spend the money, would a dedicated graphics card help (and is that even a possibility if I have an integrated card)?

SIDE QUESTION: I cleaned the drive and re-installed. Is it normal that in My Documents there is the "Bluetooth Software" folder? I'm surprised this is in there and not somewhere else on the hard drive. I just installed to the default location when I installed drivers.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Lenovo uses LG and Samsung LCDs for the T61. I have had hands on experience with both. It is a matter of opinion as to which LCD is superior, but the vast majority (including myself) find the LG LCD to be MUCH better than the Samsung. The issues you are describing sound like the Samsung screen.

With a Samsung screen I found the default brightness setting to be the best. As you mentioned, the higher up you go on the brightness, the more washed out the colors become and the fuzzier things look. It is very unfortunate that Lenovo uses these Samsung LCDs.

You do not have the option of installing a dedicated graphics card on your T61. It's just not possible. You would have to have the entire motherboard replaced. However, that is not your problem. Dedicated graphics will improve the Samsung LCDs shortcomings. The T61 w/Samsung LCD I previously owned had dedicated graphics, but that doesn't make a difference.

Your bluetooth software question seems strange. I don't think I have that folder in "my documents". (I can't check, I'm on my Desktop XP system right now).

If bluetooth is working I guess you are OK. If not, I would consider uninstalling the driver. Then deleting that bluetooth folder. Then re-install the driver. Perhaps if you look at my clean install guide (link in my sig) and look at Step 2 the part that says "Bluetooth install tips" which may offer some ideas as well.
