I decided not to go wih the X60, just because for one I couldnt find it at my local store to check it out, plus 12.1 inches seems too small to me for a screen.
I configured two T60 systems.
One is regular T60p for $1525 before tax.
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor T7200 (2.0GHz, 4MB L2, 667MHz FSB)[1]
Genuine Windows XP Home Edition[12]
15.4 WSXGA+ TFT
ATI Mobility Fire GL V5250 256MB
1 GB PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz SODIMM Memory (1 DIMM)[8]
No integrated fingerprint reader
120GB Hard Disk Drive, 5400rpm[4]
DVD Recordable 8x Max Dual Layer, Ultrabay Slim[5]
ThinkPad 11a/b/g/n Wireless LAN Mini-PCI Express Adapter[10]
9 cell Li-Ion Battery[60]
3 Year Warranty[7]
The other is T60 for $1397 before tax.
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor T7200 (2.0GHz, 4MB L2, 667MHz FSB)[1]
Genuine Windows XP Home Edition[12]
15.4 WSXGA+ TFT
ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 128MB
1 GB PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz SODIMM Memory (1 DIMM)[8]
No integrated fingerprint reader
120GB Hard Disk Drive, 5400rpm[4]
DVD Recordable 8x Max Dual Layer, Ultrabay Slim[5]
Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG (US/CAN/LA/AP)[10]
9 cell Li-Ion Battery[60]
3 Year Warranty[7]
Only difference between the two is the graphics card. Is it worth $128 difference to g from the ATI X1400 to the ATI Mobility Fire. Note, I have never from what I recall played games on my laptop. But am thinking in terms of ever having to resell, if its worth it?
Secondly, am thinking of the 3 year warranty is a good buy, I was planning on buying with my Amex which doubles the warranty to two years. Any advice by today would be great.

The FireGL card is designed for CAD work and other rendering/workstation purposes...it's not meant for games.
The x1400 is a commercial card and meant for gaming/general purposes.
If you want to game get the x1400, if you will be doing design work, get the FireGL card.
As far as resale is concerned it's probably a toss-up--the T60p is more expensive, obviously.
The FireGL v5250 is based off the x1700, so it's considerably more powerful than the x1400. See the GPU guide for more information. -
Also, dont forget to try the employee48hour coupon code, it may work for your system. It doesn't work for particular configurations so I've heard, but it works for most. BIG discounts

i would go with the v5250 in terms of resale. why?? 1) this is not a gaming laptop by any means, especially with Alienware, Dell, and other makes out there. reselling it to someone who wants it for gaming isnt gonna be easy since dx10 is coming out anyway, and new games need better hardware. 2) someone going to college for engineering/cad etc who needs a good/sturdy/durable system will more than likely be who would purchase it in the future. i mean, thinkpads are known as the business laptop anytime i mention it.
ultimately your decision, just make sure that if you want to resell later, you know which crowd you want to cater to.
i myself ended up pickin up the x60 . i wanted something small and portable that i could take on my vacations and random trips to review pictures that i take. hate comin home and uploading pics to see that a good percentage are either overexposed, underexposed, blurry, etc...... g/l on your purchase, hope it works out for ya... -
I finally bought one to replace my 3 year old R40
Intel® Core 2 Duo processor T7200 (2.0GHz, 4MB L2, 667MHz FSB)[1]
Genuine Windows Vista Business[12]
15.4 WSXGA+ TFT
ATI Mobility Fire GL V5250 256MB
2 GB PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz SODIMM Memory (2 DIMM)[8]
No integrated fingerprint reader
120GB Hard Disk Drive, 5400rpm[4]
DVD Recordable 8x Max Dual Layer, Ultrabay Slim[5]
ThinkPad 11a/b/g/n Wireless LAN Mini-PCI Express Adapter[10]
6 cell Li-Ion Battery[60]
1 Year Limited Warranty[7]
Price was $1582 after tax in FL - hopefully this is a good deal, I bought with AMEX card using CashBack from FW.
The only reason I didnt go for the X60 is the fact the screen is only 12", I saw some other laptops at BestBuy, they didnt have the X60 on display, and that 12" looks too tiny to me. It seems like a portable dvd player screen except like 5" larger. -
Now I am having second thoughts - if I cane make my R40 survive - should I go for the X60? What is better resale value, only reason I ask is because I am not a seller, but if I ever want to upgrade laptops, which one I can let go easily.
Also for X60 what is best config to use with the new coupon code.
Lastly, anyone know if there are pics of a T60 vs. X60 screen comparison or something - I cant seem to find it using a search.
Thanks! -
whats the problem of the R40 you are having?
choose x60 only if you need its portability greatly because it is no better than a T60 in every ways.
X60 will be only XGA, not sure if you can get the SXGA now.
But because of its weight and small size portability, makes me not wanting to go back to a regular size notebook.
The value will about the same with the T60, but the T60p will be the most value for resale. It's because you're talking about a video card thats really expensive. -
I need a new laptop because the charging port is blown on mine - i am using a docking station to charge.
Also, there are weird noises coming from the laptop, really loud which annoy my wife, i think the fan is dying. -
hey how does buying with your amex double your warranty? thanks...
