I just got an Intel 160 GB SSD and I am looking for tips and tricks on how to best use it.
I've read that W7 is the best option regarding SSD and it has automatic TRIM. However, I currently have Vista Business and will Vista run okay with SSD ? I have no reason upgrading to W7 unless Vista doesn't support SSD very well.
If I choose to use Vista with my SSD what should I be aware of ? I know I should install Intel SSD Toolbox, but should I disable Indexing, Prefetch etc. ?
What is your experience with Vista and SSD, particulary the Intel X-25M 160 GB G2 ?

Do you happen to be a student? If so, you have a few days left to get Win7 for $30.

You'll get a little performance degradation from not being able to use TRIM, but Intel drives are by far the best at not degrading. -
Vista runs just fine with an SSD, but Win7 is substantially more responsive with an SSD, just as it is with a HDD. Win7 does some of the work for you with configuring an SSD - like disabling prefetch and background defrag (!)- but both OS's benefit from disabling other some other background processes (like system restore). If you can upgrade to Win7, just do it. Nothing wrong with the modern version of Vista. Win7 is just better, in every way. It is a brilliant OS - a prefect match for an SSD.
