    Hello...

Wondering if someone can help me out with my DVD-Rom drive.

I have a IBM R40 Type 2897-23U. Everything on it works great except the DVD/CD-R drive. I might have messed it up when I did a firmware upgrade. Basically, my computer is not recognizing the DVD drive anymore. It was doing it intermitantly for awhile, now XP won't see it at all. There is power to it and the drive spins.

I am currently on firmware version 1.4 for the Panasonic/Matsu****a drive P/N UJDA740. Can anyone help me troubleshoot this or tell me if I'm on the right firmware...

    thanks in advance...

You can't see it in windows explorer? Try uninstalling the ide drivers and let windows find it again.

Sometimes, only sometimes when I run the windows hardware setup wizard, it is able to find the drive again.

I am starting to wonder if there is a problem with my drive.

Did it work before you flashed it? It may be possible to flash back to the older firmware. I would only upgrade firmware if you are having an issue a firmware update can fix.

That is what I am suspecting, that when I flashed it, I flashed it to a bad version. I am trying to find out what version I should have. IBM support is not being very helpful so I thought I try the forum to see what version others have.

I would try the forums over at CDFreaks.com. There are many knowledge people over there in regards to firmware.

thanks, I will check it out. I think the IBM site mistakenly made a recommendation for me to update my firmware and that is causing my CD to not function right now.

If anyone know the firmware version I need, that would be very helpful! I'd like to do a "flashback".
