Hi people, I want to buy a x200s CTO in Australia. I don't like the ugly line on top cover of the machine. Also I want LED. I called the Lenovo Australia. They told me that every machine except SL has next generation roll cage and the x200s has the ugly line. It does not have the LED, even for the wxga+ panel.

Can anyone tell me whether they produce different x200s? I mean in US, they have LED, Next Generation ThinkPad Roll Cage technology utilizes a carbon-fiber/ glass-fiber top cove, etc. But they sell different machines in Australia?

I am confused. Hope someone can help me.

    Thanks in advance!

Lenovo Australia gave you some bad information.

The vast majority of x200s models available outside the US (and apparently Germany) have the WXGA CCFL upper from the x200 standard. Thid does NOT have the roll cage; however, it does offer WWAN and a webcam.

EVERY WXGA+ model of the x200s is LED. This is the only model with the "Next Generation ThinkPad Roll Cage technology utilizes a carbon-fiber/ glass-fiber top cover, etc". This upper is also about 100 grams lighter, and a shade thinner, than the WXGA CCFL version.

I'm not 100% sure of the line you're referring to, but I assume it is the one on the top cover for servicing the antenna array. The x200, x200 Tablet, and I believe the x200s all have this. It is for a practical reason and it really isn't too unsightly in person.

If you want WXGA+ LED you will most likely have to import it. I'm not sure of the exact costs you will incur, but I imagine it will be relatively expensive (import fees & VAT).

Yes, in the US, the x200s is equipped with an LED screen, Next-generation ThinkPad "roll cage" technology made from carbon/glass fiber, however, i believe only the x200 has the mag-alloy top and bottom covers.

Check THIS link for more details.

    Thanks for the replies!

I will order a x200s CTO with wxga+. So I would like to know if I get the carbon fiber top cover and LED. So I rang the Lenovo Australia. They told me I will not get them.

From what I read, if the top cover is carbon fiber, there will be no line on the top cover for servicing the antenna array.

I mean, if I don't get LED and the carbon fiber, why should I pay more for the x200s?

I agreee you should not pay much EXTRA for the x200s unless you get the LED and carbon fiber (although some of the international x200s actually cost LESS than a comparable [except CPU] x200). There is a small reduction in weight and improvement in battery life even without the display (due to the ULV or LV processor), but the WXGA+ LED and carbon fiber upper are the primary things that make the x200s a superior option.

I really think that Lenovo Australia is wrong about the LED. The WXGA+ LED display is physically thinner than the WXGA CCFL model. As such, a thinner and lighter carbon fiber/roll cage upper is used to better accommodate it. Unless Lenovo Australia has some rare 12.1" WXGA+ CCFL panels I have never heard about, I believe it is almost certainly LED if it's WXGA+ and has the carbon fiber upper.

They could theoretically use the WXGA+ LED with the standard x200 upper assembly, although I'm not certain why. A follow up question you could ask is if the webcam and WWAN are available with the WXGA+ display. The carbon fiber upper does not include the antennas or space for a camera, and thus this is not an option. Therefore, if you can't get WWAN or the cam with the WXGA+ display it is almost certainly LED and carbon fiber.

    Thanks for the reply!

The web cam option is not even available for x200. So the option you mentioned is not working. I will just wait until I get my order. I will let you people know the results.
