My ship date was April 22, bought it on the 7th of april, but it was actually shipped on the 11th. So you just might get it sooner. Good luck

Wouldn't it be funny if he felt so confident, but when he gets the laptop, he gets the worse experience out of all of us.

I didn't read that as being funny/ha-ha - more like funny/ironic.

(Ever since USENET I've found interpreting internet humor to be tricky indeed...) -
Though the rep who phoned me says it may take up to 2 weeks to ship mine out. Was kinda hoping it would be like my Uncle's when he received his CTO X201T from Lenovo in just 6 days which is astonishingly fast (so fast it arrived before Lenovo updated us any sort of tracking number). -
Whoops, guess you already ordered.
Everything looks great, almost exactly like mine except I opted for the i5 2520m -
Too bad, I thought just a week or two ago they were reporting ship dates 4-6 business days out. I sure hope that date moves forward. A month is a long time to wait.
My config is pretty much the same as yours, but with a few extras:
- Camera
- Centrino 6205 wifi card
- Onsite warranty (still just one year though)
I've had a lot of trouble getting good connections at public wifi spots with my Atheros-sporting Asus UL30A, *especially* at PyCon, where all the MacBook Pros were connecting without a hitch. So I now understand the value of good wifi hardware. It's great that you get so many choices there with the T420 (though confusing at the same time). -
I got the webcam. Stuck with the free upgrade to intel centrino wifi card though.

Interesting. I know you can order FDE drives from Lenovo at the time of purchase of a ThinkPad, but will it work on any particular drive? I may try this when I get a new system/revamp my existing one. -
You should be able to purchase a Seagate FDE drive aftermarket.
I'm pretty sure the T400 and later support them in BIOS. The T61 may as well, but I'm not positive on that.
EDIT: Here's the info I've found. Any system with SATA should work.

Here's the list of systems that have full BIOS functionality for it.

Oh sticks...I never noticed that the T420 doesn't have HDMI...I was hoping to have that. What is a good solid variable model. Reason being is my wife would be using it for movie watching (while on an airplane, trips, etc...not that often, but nice ot have it). Im having buying wariness....and with the 15% restocking fee I want to make sure I made the right choice so I can cancel it before it ships (and I think there is no penalty...)
I'm in full blown panic mode right now... -

From another topic: My Full battery (T420) test if interested
".. Movies was another matter. The one movie I viewed "2012" was OK, but it was not steller. Had to view the screen straight on or it would not look right. YouTube viewing was better for some reason... "
EDIT: Seems that you posted that yourself ??? -
I don't know if this will help or not - see the screen shots from this review. Note this conclusion: Overall what you see above is typical of any laptop that does not have an IPS screen.
I'm a firm believer that a certain amount of buyer's remorse when purchasing a laptop is inevitable, given all the different features available. However, you'll have to sort that out yourself.

T420 - Ordered 4/16, got an email today (4/18) that says it shipped today. Lenovo CSR told me that they are shipping sooner than the 17 days quoted on Lenovo online store. Sooner is an understatement.
-
It could be because I went with the Optimus graphics option, or some other part where supply is tighter.
Help me fall in love with the T420
