Hi newbie here :). I currently own a poc Dell 640m and I am looking to get a Thinkpad. Please help me choose one of these two-

    X200s ($800 including taxes etc.)

    Intel Core2 Duo processor SL9400 (1.86GHz, 6MB L2, 1066MHz FSB)1
Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 32
12.1" WXGA LED Panel, 3x3 UltraConnect II antenna
    Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD
    2 GB PC3-8500 DDR3 SDRAM 1067MHz SODIMM Memory (1 DIMM)8
    TrackPoint
    250GB Hard Disk Drive, 5400rpm
    No Bluetooth
    ThinkPad WiFi (BGN)
    ThinkPad X200 Series 4 cell Li-Ion Battery
    2.4 lbs

    X200 ($866 including taxes etc.)

Intel Core2 Duo processor P8600 (2.40GHz, 3MB L2, 1066MHz FSB) with Intel vPro Advanced System Management
Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64
12.1 WXGA, 2x2 UltraConnect II antenna; with Camera and Wireless Broadband Upgradeable
    Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD
    2 GB PC3-8500 DDR3 SDRAM 1067MHz SODIMM Memory (1 DIMM)
    TrackPoint
    250GB Hard Disk Drive, 5400rpm4
    No Bluetooth
    ThinkPad WiFi (BGN)10
    Integrated Mobile Broadband - Upgradable
    ThinkPad X200 Series 4 cell Li-Ion Battery
    2.93 lbs

The X200 has a 2.4ghz processor while the X200s has a 1.86ghz processor (although double the cache). X200s has LED screen and weighs a bit less. I want a lightweight laptop capable of doing some processor intensive work from time to time (statistical software etc.)

    Get bluetooth.

I would get the x200s in your case but if you really want a webcam you'd have to go with the x200.

Thanks. I do not need a webcam (didn't know that X200 had one). Bluetooth would be $18 more, a decent option I guess

It helps for resell value. And it is nice to have just in case you need it ever. I found myself wanting it to tether my phone and I installed one after the fact, but $18 upfront is the way to go.

Make sure you are comfortable with the DPI of the x200s screen.

    He's getting the WXGA version, so that's a non-issue.

I would also recommend the x200s. The SL9400 is more than fast enough for the vast majority of tasks, and is also more efficient than the P8600. The x200s is also lighter AND gets better battery life.

I'm actually quite surprised that the x200s is cheaper. It used to carry a quite substantial premium over the x200.

Ariucr: how&where do you can get x200s with $800 including taxes etc. ? you would go for x200s. I bought x200 about 2 months ago, I am happy with it, but wish I had x200s due to its lightweight, my next onw would be "s" :))

I personally would skip Bluetooth. A USB 2.0 Bluetooth 2.0 EDR adapter is very small (see photo in link) and inexpensive (less than $5). When I do not need Bluetooth, I can unplug the USB adapter and be absolutely certain that it is not drawing any power. Besides, sometime down the road I may want Bluetooth 3.0, and it is simpler to upgrade an external adapter.

Not saying that jaredy's suggestion is invalid; just offering a different opinion here.

Edit: Here is something else to think about. Buying the built-in BT option means that Lenovo will preload BT software on your machine, which is good (and important) if you use Windows. Cheap USB BT adapters tend to come with crappy software.

I am not OP, but this would be my guess. The sale should run until the end of the month.

Now you can configure X200s with 1280x800 LED-backlit display in the official Lenovo online store.

Yep, that changed a few weeks ago. However, I have no idea what the quality of the WXGA LED is (doubt it's any lower than the WXGA CCFL or WXGA+ LED though).

if you want to do processor-intensive work, the X200 would be a better bet (I just bought one). IMO the main reason to get the X200s is simply the weight advantage.

Without the Amex special discount, the 5% eCoupon by itself is not at all exciting.

I meant the AMEX special discount deal could be extended till end of november based on the extension of 5% coupon. Could be possible right ? May not be true?
