I would say neither. The R60 uses really outdated Core Duo CPU and the T60... well, I got the T400 in my sig for $600 shipped, with a three-year warranty and a more power-efficient CPU, so I would look around some more. But, if you don't mind running on a T-series CPU the T60 is the one I would choose over the R60.

Also, I'm pretty sure the T60 is capped at 3 GB of RAM with its 667 MT/s CPU so you wanna keep that in mind.

if you like the 14.1 inch 4:3 factor then i would say the T60, but the 500 dollars they are asking is pretty expensive. Considering you can get a T61 for that with 2 years warranty remaining, or the T400......

T60 is an excellent machine but the price they are asking for a non Flexiview screen version is too much, with a maximum of 3 gig of ram.... i think you should get the T400 instead........

We Canadians always have to pay more... A previous poster must have purchased his/her T400 through Lenovo USA for 600+. I wasn't aware of CPP and EPP when I purchased my T61 with a boatlod of e-coupons during the clearance sale, but it still cost me 1000 CAD taxes included. I clearly recall saving 400CAD over the regular price. We can't buy any T-series anywhere near that 600-700 range.

Having said that, 500 is a bit too much for a T60 with a regular screen.

well i guess it would be useful to call on favours from your American relatives to get the Lenovo USA prices.

I got my T400 and my X200 from the same seller on eBay within a three-month time span in between. The machines were supposed to be used and have come from a liquidation but when I got them, they had zero battery cycles on them. So, yeah, eBay is a "dangerous" place to buy electronics from, but if you look long and carefully enough you can land nice deals there.

if you are looking for a cheap thinkpad, i would get the R60...
    $315 is a steal!
as for the $500 t60 is too much, and ebay has a decent, better equiped, T61 for $425..
i recently picked up a T43 for $175 on fleabay
just keep checking in if your looking for a cheap thinkpad.
considering the T400 is double the price of the R60, ask your self what the laptop is going to be used for

It will mainly be used for office apps. Word processing, internet, and lots and lots of long, boring power point presentations.

My powerpoints usually have a lot of information in terms of pictures, embedded videos, animations etc. Will the R60 be able to handle this?

I have my MBP for gaming and other stuff...this thing will be used for business.

Running XP, 1GB of memory will be enough for those tasks. Even big PowerPoints shouldn't be too much of an issue, and even then, you could very cheaply add another 1GB stick for a total of a very ample 2GB.

The R60 may be worth it if you just need a cheap system to do those tasks (and it's much more powerful than the netbooks you can buy at that price range), but the T60 is (like several people of pointed out) bordering on the new-machine price range.

I will be upgrading the ram to 3gb regardless. I offered a lower price for the T60, if he accepts I'll go with that.

Between the two I would go T60 its definitely a better machine even you don't upgrade the ram, and it is going to last longer way with c2d than cd

I had a 14" R60. I liked it a lot. I wanted a FlexView was the only reason I got rid of it. If you can get it for $200 less, that's what I'd get. The R series doesn't have the cache of the T series, but they are very similar and share a lot of parts.

    $475.

In my opinion, that is a good price. The machine is in near mint condition with normal keyboard wear (just some shineness). And considering I'm in Canada, well, I don't have access to sweet deals.

But with a fairly decent processor and 3 GB ram, 7200 RPM drive, this thing would probably match my MBP in everyday tasks, which is the main purpose of the machine anyway.

I think that is a decent deal. The problem sometimes here is that the American and Canadian prices are drastically different with Canadians always getting ripped off and paying way more.

It's almost so bad that this forum probably should have a section for Canadians or at least Canadians should post their flag each time so people know what kind of prices they have to pay.

Someone earlier said the T60 should be no more than $375. Obviously, they have no clue that Canadians are often paying that for a T43 with an ATI card. :-/

The 375 price is reserved for the regular T60 without the flexiview, but the T60p will have a higher price.

Where could I buy parts for the 14" T60p? I'm mainly looking for a new keyboard and the touchpad casing.
