Hi,
I want to set up a Win7/ubuntu dual boot on my y580 without doing a clean install.
On previous machines I have just installed from USB straight off and let it set up partitions ect automatically.
Due to the set up on my Y580 I dont think thats an option anymore. It doesn't recognise my computer as having an operating system installed since I have the model that ships with a 64Gb SSD. The operating system files are installed here (left at the default settings using it as a cache as well) but it is not recognised as a formatted drive.
Means I am going to have to manually edit the partitions, just wondering if anyone knows the best way to go about this... Also not sure if it is possible to install the boot files to the 64Gb SSD.
Looks like my main drive already has 4 partitions, a 200Mb system_drv partition, the windows7_0S (C: main data partition, 946.99 Gb), Lenovo (D and a 20.9Gb (OEM partition).
Honestly fairly clueless with stuff like this so any help appreciated.
Cheers

hi, i installed ubuntu on my y580. here is how did it.
i deleted D drive, since i can copy the files from this drive and use it later. now i have 3 partitions. then i shrinked c drive. use any partition magic soft.
now you have 3 partitions and huge amount of unallocated space
use this unallocated space to create one extended partion. and inside create logical drive. here i explained how.
Help installing linux (ubuntu) on Y580
