So I'm looking for something to protect my laptop so that I can bring it to school. Here are my three options:

    1) Get a laptop sleeve and put my laptop in my current backpack
    2) Buy a backpack designed to carry laptops
    3) Buy a laptop sleeve and backpack and put the sleeve + laptop in that backpack

In the beginning I though of buying a sleeve since it's more versatile and be put in any back. I thought of buying the zeroshock III but I think the t510 is too thick for it.

If I get a back pack it has to have a slim profile but be able to fit some notebooks as well.

    What should I do?

I got a pretty nice backpack at costco this weekend for 30 bucks. I also have a T510.

Probably the most important consideration when it comes to laptop sleeves/backpacks is your budget. Personally, I wouldn't spend more than $50 on a bag for myself, but I've seen many people splurge upwards of $150 on a laptop bag. So, what budget are you looking at? Seeing as you were considering the Zeroshock III (the one I have for my T500, actually), I'm guessing around $40?

    40$ for a sleeve, and 70$ for a bag.

Recently I was thinking of getting this bag from lenovo:
Lenovo - Find accessories for your laptop and desktop - Carrying Cases - 43R2482 Canada (CA)

But then I realized that I didn't like how the bag pretty much advertises that you have a thinkpad laptop.

Another one I was interesting in was this belkin:
BELKIN COMPONENTS Evo Backpack - Fits Laptops with Screen Sizes Up to 17-inch - Black/Red : Laptop/Notebook Accessories | Dell Canada

But maybe it's better to just get a sleeve... That one I can put my laptop in whatever bag I want.

Alslo this is the video that made think twice about the zeroshock:

That's a very tight fit and the t510 is a bit thicker than that laptop.

    I personally like CaseLogic's quality.

Case Logic TK Backpack > Backpacks & Messengers > Case Logic

You may need a sleeve though, if you want to protect you thinkpad's corners' paint... however it's hard to imagine going to school with a backpack and a sleeve, too much trouble to put and take your laptop out... imo.

Quick question guys, I heard that thinkpad are prone to edge wear. Those that mean that I should put my thinkpad in a sleeve + a laptop backpack to make sure to prevent this?

That's what I thought. But how long does it take for the wear to become apparent? Like I don't intend on bringing my laptop to school everyday. Max 1 week.

Also, let's say I go for a bag with a maximum capacity for a 15.6" laptop. Should I that one with the sleeve or opt for the 17" model?

btw thanks for the help guys.

that really depend on how hard the edge rub against other material and how often does this occur. Alternatively, just keep the old plastic packaging that comes with your laptop, and put the laptop in the plastic packaging every time you need to take the laptop out with you.

    Seriously?

My spouse is hard on machines and if I need to worry about a corner or edge getting a little shiney then I have way too much time on my hands.

Unless you expect to resell a machine after 3-4 years in "like new" condition, just get a backpack and move on.

ThinkPad’s hold up nicely unless you are just brutally abusive with them.
