You can say that. Naa The real reason is I am waiting for my friend to get my digicam back to click some pics. He has taken it with him for an outing with his colleagues. He should be back late in the evening. Will post some pictures for your guilty pleasure. The wait for the package was killing me. :D

    Hi Guys,
I am attaching the images of the outer Box of my Lenovo x301 as promised. I believe you must have seen lots of unboxing pictures of x301 laptop in other sites so I won't bother you guys with pics of the laptop. I have opened the package and the laptop looks brand new with no signs of any usage, scratches or cosmetic blemishes. I also called up Lenovo support and asked them is there any way of identifying between a new and a refurbished laptop and they said you have to rely on the Seller's word.

Anyways my apprehensions have been put to rest and I am planning on upgrading the warranty on the laptop to 2 years onsite. The warranty is expiring on June 3 2010. Is it worthwhile upgrading the warranty when the system is under warranty or pay for some part/s if and when some parts fail when warranty expires and something happens to the machine.

I believe I owe an apology to the seller for doubting his credentials without giving him a chance and jumping to conclusions. But In this whole process I have learnt my Lesson and I will not be hence forth purchasing a big ticket item like laptop on ebay and limit my purchase to less than 100$ for my peace of mind. Inspite of having a good experience with the purchase losing my peace of mind for 3 days was not worth it. Enjoy the images

Not sure if you appreciate what I said earlier in the thread, but ...

If there is a security seal on the plastic bag, then it's new. Refurbished laptops are unlikely to have this factory seal as they are often refurbished by a 3rd party. Chances are you got a brand new laptop, except with a shorter warranty period as the warranty date starts a week after the laptop is delivered to the original buyer.

Warranty upgrades are useful as parts are expensive and if purchased through IBM, only carries a 3 month warranty for out of warranty products. Get the Thinkpad Protection Plan with Accidental Damage cover as it's worth it for the amount vs the out of pocket expense you will have to bear. I broke the bezel on my X301 and got it replaced under TPP.

Perhaps, should heed the advice of the more experienced NBR members and consider more sensible actions than some of the extreme measures suggested along the way.

This story and the one where the guy insists his video camera is spying on him and his father is a KGB agent are the most entertaining on NBR this year. Two "emmy award" winning posts toward the end of the year. Should market them in induct into the hall of fame. lol.
