    Hi all,

I am currently waiting on a sparkling new X300 that I will be using to replace my current T61 and I'm having some difficulty getting my arms around exactly how I should go about moving into my new 'home'.

That being said, here are some other bits of information that might prove useful:
    • I have Acronis True Image that I have been using to make regular full drive image backups (and incidentally this has saved me once already)
    • I'm thinking the Windows Easy Transfer process is not advanced enough for what I want to do
    • I will be selling the old computer, so I want it clean, but in a factory state with a clean install of Windows
    • Current Machine has Vista Ultimate, New Machine has Vista Business

    Questions are as follows:
    1. Would it be possible to basically swap licenses on the computers? In effect, can I move my Vista ultimate license to the new machine and trade the Vista Business license that will be sold?
    2. What's the best way of doing this kind of transfer?
    3. Can I convert the Vista Ultimate 32 bit install into a Vista Ultimate 64 bit install?

I am very technically savvy and will have no issue doing anything suggested, however I just don't know what the best way to do this is. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!

You can't easily restore an image of your old computer onto the new one unless the hardware is almost identical (if that's what you are planning to do). Windows is likely to fall over when it loads up the wrong drivers for the hardware. Or do you have the Acronis Universal Restore? And if that works, Vista will probably notice that the hardware has changed.
