    okay.
    here is my story.
I am a network admin for a large worldwide company.
    When I started working here, I had a T42.

I quickly had the oppurtunity to upgrade to a loaded T43. SXGA, DVD BURDER, FINGERPRINT READER, BLUETOOTH, 80GB HD. I love it to death.

but i let the geek in me get the better half of me and again, had the oppurtunity to give mine to a user and get a new one for me so I got an X41 tablet.

I love the tablet part of it, but its weak in performance, and it bluescreens alot. I had it swapped and the same problem.

So here I am once again going to get my machine swapped out.

Should I go for the new T60, or even T43?
    Or Z60t?

I use my laptops for Photoshop, Dreamweaver.....(personal stuff)

for work mostly email and admin stuff, but no big deal.

If you want to stay with tablet, they should be offering the X60t later this year.

Otherwise the T60 is pretty hot. They just added a bunch of configurations yesterday. Really depends on your size requirements though.

the size of the t43 is fine with me. only travel 4-5 times a year for a few days each.

how does the T43 or T60 compare to the Z series?

The main difference is that the Z series are widescreen, while the T series are standard screen.

Currently, Z60t and Z60m use the same CPUs and chipsets as T43 - Intel's second generation Dothans. Newer T60's and X60's will be using the new Core Duo.

The only problem with recommending a T60 now is that they are very new. You don't really know how they will cope with the test of time.

Of the Z-series, I don't like the Z60t. Based on stories, its construction quality is questionable and too many bad samples may be out there. I also find it too small and the lack of good video cards is annoying (especially considering the price).

The Z60m seems like a very good machine, but not for travelling. It's bulkier and heavier than 15" T-series. Then again, it's not a problem for you, I guess.

The T43 is very good, both design-wise and performance-wise. Then again, I shouldn't tell you about it.

Of course, if you get a T43 now, it will raise questions as to why you gave it up in the first place.

Might as well bite the bullet on a T60. But you will have to wait for a while.

I'd go with the T60, but would wait a couple of months to let the production line "stabilize", if you get my drift. You'll get a better quality machine, generally.

Another thing to consider with the z60t is that it will not have full support for the new very graphical Windows Vista O/S available in about a year's time. The z60t's 915GM Chipset will only offer a "Windows* XP-comparable graphics experience", whereas the 945GM Chipset in the duo core X and T will offer full support.

Check out this link for more info (Napa is apparently the old codename for the new 945GM chipset) ..
Intel Business Mobile Platforms for Microsoft Windows Vista

I have heard that the Z series duo core will be available in about 6 months time, which is what I am waiting for and it should use the same chipset as the X and T :)

    Cheers
